The odd thing about trolls is, they don't seem to realize they are trolls even when they're called on it.

If they are really trolls they get off on being called on it as they know they are drawing blood and this the only attention they ever get.

And they get better at it over time. That's why we should not feed them and instead shun them. They are kind of like those campground bears.

See, I've already wasted time commenting on this troll.

Yeah, we shouldn't respond to them directly.

The trolls on that Art of Trolling site linked above are actually pretty good. They're funny and not doing it to be asses (well, mostly). Instead, it's more of a sarcastic sense of humor/playing dumb. That's trolling done proper. Forum trolls are a completely different animal, unfortunately. Like Mark G, bitching about this site elsewhere like no tomorrow yet he couldn't stay away if his life depended on it.

I would not call Mark G a troll; he's one of us for sure and he works in the business at the state of the art.

He's just a man of changing opinions, and he honestly believes each and every opinion at the time.

I guess there is a name for this condition, but troll does not cover it.

Politician? Except he isn't running for anything.

Clearly SOME of what he says is purely to incite some into anger (the comments don't add to the discussion, they just make some mad)...that is a malicious act of a troll. There is also the constant product placement he uses that is troll like.

Like his KLH comment which I think was in this thread obviously directed at me and having absolutely nothing to do with IMAX digital or movie theaters in any way.

I think a real troll is more like a poser. Mark G. generally knows what he's doing or saying.

As to the product placements or plugs; unless someone is paying him to say these things, it's pretty harmless.

We all say things to provoke or bait a response. That alone does not make us trolls.

Product placement and plugs are trolling when claiming things every competitive product does. For example if the discussion was talking about ingesting times and then Mark comes up and comments:

"The server-brand-I-am-selling-this-month can ingest while it is playing a movie."

Oh yeah? Big flippin' do because they ALL can! As such, that sort of comment is giving misleading information, as the readers would in such an example then think that if they want to ingest during playback that they need to seek out the server-brand-Mark-is-selling-this-month. It isn't as if what he said was incorrect, it just isn't complete and somebody like Mark knows better.

Yeah...the brand I normally sell this month has had playing content off the CRU for years while the brand he is selling this month treats it as a newish feature!

What's interesting that some circuit heads tell their employees that this procedure can't be done...
