There isn't an Enigma in Series 1 so you are safe. Not to worry.

And anyway no, logs are cleared automatically at the end of the show. Only if the aforementioned circumstances arose, then you may need to manually clear the logs.

Your logs filling up may be due to the server itself not downloading the logs frequently enough. That is different. This can occur if shows are tightly spaced and there isn't sufficient time to download the logs...if enough of those events occur, then the logs can fill up and "purging" them will download them, finally.
I would say average intermission time is 30-45 minutes. When I execute a manual purge of the logs, it normally takes about 45 minutes. Who knows how many logs are being extracted at that time. If the server is supposed to download logs after playback of every show, shouldn't it only take a few minutes? And surely there would be plenty of time overnight to download the logs. Could there be something going on here that is preventing the server from downloading the logs automatically?

I believe when you call the purge task, the server will go through all the logs again, marking them as "read" even though they're already marked as "read".

In fact, if you log in the Enigma board, the logs are always there, they're not actually purged from the board.

The only way it could download overnight is if the projector is left on. The Enigma is powered by the projector as it resides in there (on the PIB board on Christie, HDSDI boar on Barco and Legacy Board on NEC).

Since Barco does not have a standby mode like other projectors do, the projector is completely powered (lamp off between shows and at night, of course) 24/7. So again I ask, even if intermission is too short to allow downloading of all the logs, shouldn't it happen at least once a day, after the last show? Could there be something preventing that from happening, thereby causing the site to experience this issue?

Ken,

If it's a Doremi and you're running the latest software the answer is no. Logs are downloaded when the server has been idle for 5 minutes.
If it's an old software I think I recall that as long as you have a playlist loaded it won't download the logs, you need to eject the playlist first

If it's a Dolby, it could be a problem. Dolby only downloads 500-ish entries at each show END. If your shows never end - because you stop them manually - the server never downloads logs.

If only your last show ends on its own, the server will only donwload 500-ish entries, which may be less than the entries generated during the day. In weeks' or months' time your enigma will be full.

Unless there is a fire alarm, power outage, or other unusual event, shows play all the way through. Playback mode is set to "Play then Eject."

Is a half hour intermission enough time to download one show's worth of logs?

You're talking about in the Enigma Control Program, on the Sys-Status tab after you click the Display Security Log button, right? I see there are 8130 log entries (doing the math on the Event numbers) and scrolling through, they all appear to be read. The most recent is from last night, and the oldest is about a month old.

I ran the log purge on the Doremi, which took about half an hour as usual, and logged back in to the Enigma and nothing appears to have changed on the logs page. So what does purging the logs actually do?

Mark them as "read".

That being said, when the "log full" issue happens, if you log onto the Enigma the logs are marked as "read" anyway. See what Steve said earlier.

30m is plenty of time. A show generates a few logs, a few seconds to be downloaded.

That is perfectly logical, and exactly what I figured. So again, it does seem like there is something that is preventing the server from downloading them after the show as it should, else I would not have to have the site purge the logs manually once a week to prevent the logs full issue.

I think I'm getting even more confused. Steve, can you chime in here?

I'm sorry, I'm not going to be a good source of information on Doremi personalities. Despite it being the most popular server in the world...it is the one I have the least experience with.

Dolby's servers, on the other hand, I have a bunch of them and after each show, they show you the logs being downloaded (bar graph).

The problem in Enigma is not the server's fault, it is the Enigma's. The server reads the logs, tells the Enigma the log is read and it is up to the Enigma to mark it as read and now available to load a new log in.

As I understand it, the new commands available in Enigma 1.7 software will FORCE the Enigma to barf the whole thing, clear all of the banks and make it ready for loading new logs.

Have you tried contacting your dealer about the logs not downloading? You shouldn't as a course of operation, have to manually download logs.

Sorry to drag up an old(ish) thread, but we had this happen to us over the weekend.

I have always seen how our dolby server downloads the security logs from the enigma board after each show has completed. I check the projector and LD logs weekly to see if any errors are thrown up, and to date have never had even a single warning.

On Friday Nov 1st all films play as normal, projector light green. On Saturday my colleague powers up the projector and gets an immediate red light. I check the communicator software "TI-Link - Security logs full"

We have had a new enigma module and are back to operating again, but Barco have been sent a copy of our logs because no warning or critical errors were generated by the Enigma module - it was working one day, bricked the next. Both our regional service tech and DCInex confirmed that no warnings or errors were generated before it just stopped working.

The server would not even connect to the projector, just gave the "transport not available" as if the projector was not even powered.

Pain in the ass, lost 3 shows two of which were sell outs.

Film didn't have this nonsense security. That's why it had better uptime. It's only going to get worse though and it's really for no reason because nothing at all will stop people from "camcordering" off of the screen and getting a pretty amazingly good picture.

There is nothing you can do for it unfortunately. The sad thing is that I would like to know who is looking at those logs and what is the reason for those logs to be generated.
The industry lose more shows because of Enigma/security measures that go wrong rather than actual breakdowns.

At least TI could provide a tool the service personnel could use to reset those boards. It's unacceptable the final user has to lose so much money for such nonsense. Particularly someone like you who tried to prevent that issue in the first place.

Out of curiosity, what software versions were you using?
