Digital förstoppning (digital constipation) as we call it up here. The projector can´t s**t [Mad] [bs]

Totally stupid error and quite hard to explain to a small town cinema owner far out in the wilderness when the projector just passed warranty.
-It´s definitely not your fault it broke down but you still have to pay a lot of money for getting it fixed.

Now that Enigma 1.8 is available...nobody should have to pay for that one. Again, on a Christie, one merely needs to manually load 1.8. I would also, while I was at it, and since it is a Dolby server, run the ./getAllProjectorLogs.sh script too and flush it. We run that script now on all of the servers we maintain and plan on doing so about once per year.

Hopefully, Christie will issue a new service pack that includes Enigma 1.8 like everybody else.

Just make sure your Enigma is on 1.8 firmware in the future.

Hakan, it is easy on GDC servers fix this error by making some mouse clicks, but dolby.. If You have some another brand server in Cinema just swap server with Dolby, and in some time it will be fixed,
(You will need to change Lan settings) You give me good idea to think regarding connecting Cp2210 and GDC server with Internet WAN port to Internet WAN port for long distance to check if it will work, to fix such error on projector. The our NEC projector makes such error sometimes, but GDC server simple fix it.

It is an Enigma issue with versions earlier than 1.8. If the issue happens with such versions, there is no "fix" available.

You're right George! As far back as Firmware version 7.8 GDC had a button to transfer the enigma logs content to the server and even when the projector lights would go red it would still play back until you powered the system down and then back up again. Then you had no choice but to empty the logs. That was made automatic in the DCI 8.XX version. What the heck is with Dolby and why can't their's manage this simple process? I don't hear any of this happening with people running Doremi servers either....

Sorry Mark...it does happen with all including GDC and Dolby servers. The Logs Full condition is not one of download but one of "corruption" in the Enigma. The "Almost" full one is one that I had MUCH more with GDC back in the 7.8 days but never in the 8.01 days. Dolby does download the logs each show (you even see it happening!). Dolby does have a command line to pull ALL of the logs that takes about an hour as all 8192 logs will be requested.

What CAN happen on a Dolby is that you come across a genuine "logs almost full" condition. If you keep stopping the playback manually, logs are never downloaded.

On a Doremi they are downloaded after the server has been idle for 5 minutes - don't know about GDC.

I feel the Doremi approach is more idiot-proof, and does not force you to wait till the logs are downloaded after the show.

So I wonder on a Doremi system if you have Screen Vision ads that tend keep you from having more than 5 minutes of intermission time...if you get the Logs Almost Full a lot since it never gets a chance except maybe at the end of the day to snatch the logs.

Never had a single issue Steve and at least half of my systems are (Dual HDSDI) a number of them are now over 4 years old. GDC has always had the button too empty the logs so it can't fill up. Never had to replace a single enigma either.

Lucky, lucky you, I guess. I've had to change numerous GDC IMBs and multiple GDC Mediablocks too...I'm not picking on them...just noting they are not the problem-free server you depict them to be.

We've been seeing a few media block failures as well... just out of warranty of course. $3K+ each.

Steve,

A combination of the two approaches could be the right one. Download the logs when idle if the Enigma is still free, then force some download cycle at the end of the show if the Enigma is getting full.

I am not familiar with that advert system, but what happens to the lamps? If you run 5 shows are the lamps going to stay on 12 hours with no interruption?

Those sites with Screen Vision ads that we service...most of the projectors never turn their lamps off since the intermission times are so short (under 10-minutes).

As for mediablock failures, 2014 has been a big one for us. We've had IMBs from all brands fail (with brand "C" getting to be 100% failure), and conventional mediablocks fail from all...though no CAT862s from us, I know of one that did die...we've had two DSP100s fail but one has already been repaired, the other just has one of its HDSDI outputs that has noise on it. I've had a couple of GDCs...one out of warranty...now retired and one in-warranty...replaced and still running.
