No, I'm saying that the straight up cost of the LP projectors is more expensive on a lumen-per-lumen basis without factoring in the replacement cost of the LP engine.
It isn't hard math either. The LP version of most any projector is about (all amounts are in USD) $10K. So, if you are using say 2KW lamps, you get a 3000+ life span. Just using the numbers offered now (20K to 30K hours before half light level), your xenon cost outlay is under $5,000. With xenon you are in SMPTE spec the entire time, presuming you are sized right to begin with and again, we're comparing same-same (same projector but LP version, pick your favorite brand).
As you move up in size of lamps, the gap narrows to the point where around 4K it is a wash and 4500 and up the LP is likely the cheaper way to go (running 6.5K xenon is an expensive lamp and 7K is even more so (about $1,500 for a whopping 300-hours). Furthermore, lasers are going to be more stable than the big xenon lamps.
So I get the desire for laser but if you are a "typical" cinema, they just don't make sense. If you are a PLF or pushing 4K/4.5K and beyond, then it is something to consider.
Again, we have drive ins where due to the nature of the business, their large lamps are not such a cost factor and it would take on the order of a decade before the break-even point arrived, presuming zero laser failures.
I think laser prices will drop and this gap will narrow. When it does, I'm good with it.
