Posts: 10973 From: Lawton, OK, USA Registered: Apr 2001 posted 12-05-2002 05:27 PM                     It should be noted that a lot of the "Oscar Bait" product typically goes into very limited release. Look for a number of features to hit theaters only in New York and Los Angeles on exclusive engagements only to platform out to more theaters in January and February. I remember when "Mr. Holland's Opus" was released on December 31 of 1995 at one theater in L.A. just to qualify for Oscar consideration. I think it was the middle of February before the film finally went wide. "The Two Towers" will gather all of the screens it wants. I would be more concerned for other wide releases to hit near the same time. "Catch Me If You Can" should have no problem getting its screens. Whatever happened to the theatres? Now the distributors want to make ALL or NONE on any opening weekend of any given film. I mean, DAMN... 8500 prints of ANYTHING? Has anyone not seen Harry Potter now? And it never fails... the 12:01 showing will, invariably, be a 3+hour film that fails to do what anyone expected... While Episode one sold out on 5 screens for me on the 12:01am show, none of the others, I was never given any indication that daily shows at 11pm were generating profits of sorts..... I guess I should have made myself a little clearer on my initial posts... I see no point in having a 10:30 show of a 3 hour movie nightly for 15-20 people. I can't see why one would run a show that will lose money each night.... They claim they have sold out things in the past, but we're a little 8-screen sandwiched between a 22 and a 20 which have Stadium and Digital, plus all the glitz and glamour at the Attractions Area with Universal and Disney's huge theaters, plus the Muvico.... ...and they still make us do a 12:01am show!! =TMP=  |  IP: Logged
