Percentage of occupancy for the day for the given theatres playing the film, of course. Not exactly what I'd call great turnout. This is not the busiest theatre in Huntsville and 4 prints were being run. I saw the 7:20 showing in auditorium 8 (the biggest, best auditorium there) and it looked to be about half full. All the copies that WB send to PR were damage (problems with the laboratories). The subtitles of the first reel weren't syncronized with the voices. The people starts complaining. (and will not). With all the Matrix hype this AMC did more business with other pictures. Elf was busy in the afternoon and sold out a night show; Love Actually sold out a night show; The Human Stain sold out a night show. Clifton Commons has local exclusives this week for Love Actually and The Human Stain. I will be lucky if this movie holds up into its fourth week (or third). To my surprise we have had a couple of sold out shows of the movie "Elf", and it is playing in one of our bigger audituriums. Currently Elf is our number 1 movie of the weekend. This will automatically bring capacity numbers down, while still keeping overall grosses for the film high. This film is doing remarkably well, although many theaters will not feel this boon. It will do much better in the newer giant screened megaplexes where the newness of the place has not worn off so the teenagers are still flocking like idiots. reviews do not make money, ticket sales do. So does mass release. Personal preference of projection staff doesn't make a dent. It's all about supply and demand. Right now, they made sure that there was much more supply than demand. It made sure that everyone could get a chance to see it right away, before too many people who just didn't get it or hated it, could influence thier friends to not see it. Ciao. Was the Human Stain. AMC did not do "more business with other pictures." for Fri-Sat, Matrix Revolutions grossed more than twice what Elf grossed. Love Actually was their #5 pic (behind Matrix, Elf, Brother Bear, Scary Movie 3), Human Stain was #11, and In The Cut was #14 (out of 15 pictures - ahead of Good Boy!)  |  IP: Logged Paul G. Fri-Sun Estimates, Matrix $50 million, Elf $32 million.
