quote: Mike Spaeth
Do you understand the internal operations of a Wal-Mart?
Yes. Wal-Mart is a Corporation. A corporation, under the law, is a legal person. However, it is a special kind of person. A person with no moral conciousness, no body to be killed and no soul to be saved, designed specifically by law to be concerned only for their stockholders and profits. The customer is merely an inconvenience which must be addressed in the pathalogical pursuit of profits and power.

Regarding customer service policies, the best policy is not to have one. Deal with each individual customer and complaint on an individual basis. Having a "money back" or "satisfaction guaranteed" policy opens up the floodgates for those customers who watch an entire movie and then demand a refund because it was not enjoyed. And often lie about it.

There is a grocery store chain down here called Publix which has a customer service policy along the lines of: We will never knowingly disappoint you. If your food purchase does not meet your satisfaction, we will cheerfully refund the full purchase price if your meal is not eaten and enjoyed. Those key words -- Eaten and Enjoyed -- have resulted in numerous problems. A friend of mine working for a store in the Boca Raton area has hundreds of stories of little old Jewish ladies bringing back their leftovers and demanding a full refund because the meal was not ENJOYED. [Roll Eyes]

All managers should carry a gun loaded with blanks. Customer starts getting loud, fire off a few shots and pray the customer doesn't have one loaded with live ammo. [Smile] (note to self: add scene to screenplay)

George Jenkins (the founder of Publix) is not unlike Sam Walton in that he addressed a growing marketshare and then capitalized on his intuition. In other words: He was just another good ol' boy who got lucky. Now, I don't have anything against George (I think he's dead anyway), but that policy just blows my mind. Great explanation of the corporation as a body, though. Never thought about it like that. [Smile]

On a personal note I was almost related to Jenkins by marriage. My second cousin dated one of his grand-nephews and wedding bells were in the air. I know, its a stretch, but Missy knew that family well . . . until she caught the kid with sombody else. No bullshit story though.
