I'm not in a panic over the digital conversion thing. Several years ago I said we'd have film for two or three years yet and I was mocked. Even if you are right that you have a year, I would want to spend the time to only operate a theater for a year. But we already have one studio saying no mas. Today we are playing a print with #1 on the shipping case. I remember when AMC used to have damn cheap "twilight' shows that were cheaper than their matinees. Now , a lot of chains seems have a very minor discount for matinees , no twilight shows, and even the definition of matinees has become a lot more restrictive. I think senior and student discounts are not as big as they used to be, at least in Atlanta. I still get good deals on Regal discount tickets - even with a recent price increase, they are still only $7 for restricted and 8.50 for unrestricted. The ticket prices at the Atlanta Regal theaters full price are nearly 12 bucks for non 3D/IMAX/RPX/??X type showings. The matinees are around 9.50 Considering how much better big screens are becoming, is this the death of the dollar(or 2 or 3) theater?  |  IP: Logged Scott Jentsch Phenomenal Film Handler Posts: 1061 From: New Berlin, WI, USA Registered: Apr 2003 posted 01-07-2014 10:56 AM                        In the Milwaukee WI area, we've seen the matinee pricing times get moved earlier and the cutoff times are becoming variable, which makes an easy pricing chart nearly impossible. The local AMC is cutting off matinees at 4pm, going from $8.25 to $10 for the same (2D) movie. Marcus appears to have a 5:30pm cutoff, going from $7.50 to $10 for a 2D show. The ages for Child tickets have also decreased, if memory serves. When I do the theatre I frequent the most is the Regal Pearl Highland with their senior admission price of $7.50. I always try to go on a Tuesday, when it can buy a small popcorn for $2.00 and a hot dog for $1.00 as a Regal Crown member. Now that Cineplex owns 78% of the market share in Canada, they have canceled matinee pricing and discontinued refills on large popcorns and large sodas.
