We had these two films doubled-up in an auditorium last week. This definitely could be an easy (and disastrous) mistake to make when running both movies in digital. We are in the habit of always checking the screen monitor on the Doremi to make sure the correct show is loaded, even when only one movie is playing on a particular screen.

I agree with Paul here. As Hills is R their would have been at least a couple of R rated green-bands with some pretty risky content definition tags. Wasn't Hostel 2 inclosed with this print?! This does makes me worry though, we've got Mimzy split with Beyond the Gates. Originally titled Shooting Dogs which is extremely violent right off the bat.

Although its not always possible I've always liked when movies doubled up each are a different format.

I think putting the blue rating band BEFORE movies might've helped a lot in a situation like this. It's absolutely pointless to put it after the film, I don't even understand the thought process on that, and they already make it play before movies on DVD's... why not in theatres as well?

Stop making excuses.
I wasn't.

Myself, I have a very simple rule: glance at the schedule before threading the print up. Works like a charm.

As a moviegoer, it's sad to me that the projectionist or manager or usher wouldn't look at the screen after starting every show. To make sure that it was in focus. To make sure that it was masked properly. To make sure that there wasn't anything wrong.

Stories like this give people one more reason to stay home.

"Why didn't anyone go out to complain about the trailers?"

I don't think most casual moviegoers even know that different trailers are attached to different movies. They just assume that what you get is what you get.

And even if someone noticed that the trailers were inappropriate, why should they assume that the wrong movie was playing? They could just as easily assume that the wrong trailers were put on the right movie.

And the very people most likely to be offended by this mistake are least capable of jumping up and running out into the lobby, because they had kids in tow.

Yeah, it's a mistake, and we all make mistakes, but this one could have been easily avoided by anyone who gave a damn.

In 9 years I never ONCE ran the wrong movie- I think the closest I came was taking out the center ring then realizing it was the wrong one. When training people I would tell them to be careful of this since usually the 2nd movie would be something completely inappropriate for the audience of the other one. I never heard of an R movie being played in place of a G one, but at least twice a co-worker treated the audience to "Pokemon 3" when they had come to see the Steven Segal masterpiece "Exit Wounds".

when I was an usher, i remember joking to the projections staff that they should be careful doubling up "Spykids" and "Original Sin" as they both have Antonio Banderas and nobody might notice.
A few days later, a customer complained that the wrong film was running on that auditorium. It was "Original Sin" instead of "Spykids". The film was already through its 1st reel.
I guess they didn't know "Spykids" didn't have Angelina Jolie.

My favorite was when one of my (ex) staff put on Team America instead of some "Movies For Juniors" flick. The parents only complained at one the puppets started having sex. Swearing, violence fine, but puppets having sex......nooooo!
Made the local papers.

violence is easier to explain to the kids: "The reason they blew that man up and splattered his innards all over the wall is because he was very very bad".
Parents don't like to explain sex.

The first couple of minutes of each performance in the majority of UK cinemas would give no indication to the rating or title of the feature. Which is when the projectionist would check the framing and focus. It's more important to be at the screen just before the feature starts, especially if the film is in scope.

Several years ago, my old theater doubled-up "Hercules" with "American Pie".

The manager thought he could save on payroll by having one of the assistant managers run the first round of the day and not have the UBs come in till later when it was time for the second round.

On the VERY FIRST day of his opening shift, the assistant threaded up "American Pie" when he should have played "Hercules"!

Of course, we all know what this genius of a manger did... He started the movie and went downstairs. The mistake wasn't caught until well into the first scene where the kid, Kevin, is his bedroom spankin' the monkey into an old sweat sock while watching scrambled porno movies on cable TV.

That was the first and LAST day of the new "money saving" policy!

We run our theater like that all the time; one of the managers opens the place and threads the first set. Though, since we set it up so that there's only 1 brain per each auditorium, the person closing booth usually (or at least I do when I close it) put the brain into the platter that it needs to be for the first show in the morning.
