I hope I'm wrong about it, but I have a sneaking suspicion Godzilla is going to be a bad movie. The family drama style schmaltz sprinkled into the latest trailer seems really hokey, like the forced drama crap seen on all the "reality TV" shows on cable.
Just in terms of large scale movie monsters the quality bar has been raised pretty high. From what I've seen Godzilla looks like a lesser version of the Kraken from Clash of the Titans. It really pales in comparison to a monster like Smaug from the last Hobbit movie. OTOH, trailers don't show too awful much, so maybe Godzilla will seem more impressive and scary in the movie. But if it's just a CGI version of the old rubber Japanese guy in a suit get-up things aren't going to go so well.
I can't say I'm all that enthusiastic about the slate of movies for this Summer. I'm hoping the upcoming X-Men movie will be good, but there's no guarantee of that. It could be just one cheesy star turn after another in that show. Edge of Tomorrow has an interesting premise, but it's also making me think of Oblivion too much. Malificent looks promising, but it's still a live action remake of Sleeping Beauty. I don't know enough yet about How to Train Your Dragon 2 to get amped up about it or not. Same goes for the next Planet of the Apes movie. Expendables 3? I might check out that one on video. Guardians of the Galaxy looks interesting to me. I liked the first trailer. It's not technically a sequel for anything, although it is linked story-wise to the next Avengers movie.
