But seriously- if you're doing 2D and 3D on the same screen and 2D outsells it, are you charging less for the 2D showings, and are they at better times?
Well -- since this is the first time we've been allowed to do a full mixed schedule, it's hard to predict what will happen. We were "requested" to give the best showtimes to the 3-D.
I think maybe this area is a little behind the times in getting sick of 3-D, partly (or mainly?) because we haven't played every 3-D movie, and of the ones we have played, if the 3-D has sucked (*cough* ClashofheTitans *cough*), we've played the movie in 2-D.
So, for next week we're doing the weekend late shows and the matinees in 2-D, and all shows Wed-Thur in 2-D. The early weekend shows, and Sun-Mon-Tue will all be in 3-D.
Last week, we played Kung Fu Panda 2 in 3-D in the evenings, and 2-D matinees. The matinees weren't any busier than they normally would have been. So I don't know how this next week will shake out.
Part of the process will be educating people. (We still get people who think we have one show at 7:30 on Fridays, and we haven't had that showtime since 1979.) Once people hear about the 2-D shows, I expect the balance will start to shift. How much, is anyone's guess. Also, some people don't understand what's meant by "2-D."
On pricing, we're just charging the usual 3-D prices for the 3-D shows, and our regular prices for the 2-D shows.
