It started during the First World War. In the May 1915 issue of Harper's Bazaar, they ran an ad of a young woman in a dress with next to no sleeves. She had her arms raised above her head and showed bare armpits. The copy of the ad read in part, "Summer Dress and Modern Dancing combine to make necessary the removal of objectionable hair." A few months later, various ads promoted underarm shaving for hygienic reasons. One ad stated "The Woman of Fashion says the underarm must be as smooth as the face". By 1917, McCall's magazine started featuring ads opposing arm hair. By 1922, the Sears catalogue started advertising women's razors and hair removal products. Many of the ads coincided with an increase in sleeveless dresses and tops. Leg hair took much longer to conquer. It wasn't until World War Two that shaving leg hair became popular. Some attribute this phenomenon to a pin-up poster of Betty Grable showing off her bare legs. The Antarctic Treaty, signed on 1 December 1959 and entered into force on 23 June 1961, establishes the legal framework for the management of Antarctica. Periodic meetings are held and the decisions are made by consensus, not by vote. At the end of 2003, there were 45 treaty member nations: 27 consultative and 18 non-consultative; consultative (decision-making) members include the seven nations that claim portions of Antarctica as national territory: Argentina, Australia, Chile, France, New Zealand, Norway, and the UK. Nonclaimant consultative nations are - Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, China, Ecuador, Finland, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Netherlands, Peru, Poland, Russia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Uruguay and the US. The claims are not recognized formally. So in practical terms the territory has no "owner", but a "managing body". Actually according to the Ontario Science Centre whether or not fish fart, is an ongoing debate. Some experts say that the digestive gasses of fish are consolidated with their food waste and expelled in gelatinous tubes which fish then eat. But, fish have been known to emit bubbles due to an excess intake of air. For instance the sand tiger shark purposefully gulps air into its stomach at the surface then farts it out at the other end so it sinks to its desired depth. But it gets weirder; herring actually use farts to communicate with each other. There are countless ways to decrease or diminish eye baggage. These are just a few suggestions. Hope they help: -Get more sleep -Bags are sometimes caused by water retention, if you're retaining water your problem may only be temporary and will clear on its own. -Sleep on your back. Apparently this keeps water from pooling up under your eyes overnight. -Use an anti-puffiness cream or serum, there are plenty out there. Dab it very gently under your eyes and pick a formula that can be worn alone or under makeup. Those containing chamomille work well. -Stay clear of things that irritate allergies or the eyes in general (i.e., cigarette smoke) -Bags that are hereditary or are the result of fat deposits building up will likely require surgery to permanently remove them. A couple of "home remedy" type things I found too: Raw potato slices will help tighten baggy, puffy eyes. All you need is a potato and a knife or slicer! To make: 1. Slice 1/4 potato to fit over your eyes. 2. Cut 2 slices or, if you prefer, 5 to 10 very thin slices, several for each eye. Either method works. To Use: 1. Spritz eye area with water. 2. The shows for the most part in the early days were, of course, geared toward housewives, given the fact that they were home during the day. What did housewives do in those days? Laundry. A general advice - "use bathroom" for one minute or less. No "pushing." You can use moist tissue, rather than dry, to clean yourself after going to the bathroom to avoid unnecessary irritation. Some proven home remedies for hemorrhoids are: Apply Aloe Vera gel relieves pain and soothes the burning sensation. Use Bayberry, goldenseal root, myrrh, and white oak in a salve form to relieve pain in the hemorrhoids. Brew a strong, warm tea using Lady's mantle (yarrow), and apply to the hemorrhoids with a cotton ball several times a day or as required. Apply Witch hazel with a sterile cotton pad, 3 times daily to shrink the swollen veins. Take Buck thorn bark, collinsonia root, parsley, red grape vine leaves or stone root either in capsules or tea form. They are also good for the treatment of hemorrhoids. To keep the bowels clean use Cayenne (capsicum) or garlic enemas. They relieve pain caused by hemorrhoids. If you find almost-constant bleeding is taking place, you MUST see a doctor. The bleeding could be internal, in a place you can't treat yourself. And you could become anemic or worse if you don't treat the problem properly. Oh yes. You can get a tan behind glass and you can also get sunburned. A greenhouse is a good example of this, where plants can be sheltered from wind, cold, frost/precipitation etc while still receiving the benefits of photosynthesis. Glass has to be specially treated to exclude IR and UV rays, as in glass lens sunglasses the likes of Rayban and Vuarnet. Interestingly, a cheaper polycarbonate lens has far superior inherent qualities in reducing IR and UV penetration than glass. Elite lens manufacturers persisted in the use of more expensive glass (plus its additional treatments) to maintain optical precision, though modern science has dramatically improved the optics in plastic-based lenses so they are virtually on par with glass, plus much lighter and not prone to shattering. Some domestic glass can be ordered with UV and IR resisting properties, and many auto manufacturers also treat their glass likewise as standard. If you really have to ask why you can get a tan behind glass, it's because exposure to sunlight gives you a suntan. Because chocolate contains theobromine, an alkaloid that dogs can't metabolize quickly. If a dog ingests a large amount of chocolate, the theobromine can build up and reach a toxic level of concentration, leading to cardiac arrest. Different types of chocolate are more harmful than others, and the effects will vary, depending upon the size and weight of the dog. However, it is potentially lethal. That dark chocolate used for baking is the most toxic to dogs. The type and amount of chocolate the dog eats correlates to the weight, age and general health of the dog in determining how toxic any "dietary indiscretion" might be. It might not be worth the risk to find out how your dog will respond. If that person never disappears under a tree, roof, cloud, underpass, cave or anything else that could obscure the picture, a satellite could hypothetically "follow" a person for at most few minutes. Since the only satellites we have which are capable of imaging small enough detail to pick out a person are low-earth-orbit, they don't stay overhead very long. It is conceivable that a second satellite could come into range just as one is leaving and pick-up the same subject, but it would take an awful lot of them to keep it up for more than just minutes. It probably goes more like this: a person tells the satellite where to take a series of side-by-side pictures to cover a given area, the pictures are then downloaded to the person who then decides what to tell the satellite to do next. Sometimes the command will be to take a series of pictures at the same spot during the same pass and transmit them. Movements of individual objects can then be determined by the changes from frame to frame. (Assuming small to medium sized motor boats in this answer.) Not brakes, per se, but boats do have the ability to actively slow down. Most boat motors have a reverse that can be used at any time. A fast moving boat slows rapidly once the throttle is released. But it will drift for a long way once it has slowed. The boat pilot/captain/driver can throw the boat's motor into reverse to slow or stop the boat entirely. In general, piloting a craft on water is considerably different than piloting on dry land. "Drift" is pretty much unavoidable and, as such, it is the pilots job to compensate for drift when turning and stopping. Even when stopped, a boat will still drift due to current or wind. So, boating is more about figuring out where you want to be and what you need to do to get there and stay there. Sometimes that means going forward slowly and sometimes it means putting the boat in reverse to cause the boat to stay in the same place. Sail boat and non-motorized boats are a whole different matter. However,these tough beasts represent the course of a certain stock market, whether it is going up or going down. A Bull market is on its way up, and a Bear market is on its way down. The market has to go down 15%to 20% and stay that way for months or years to be considered a Bear Market. In a Bull Market, on the other hand, prices must go up for months or years. But why are these events named after animals? Many people believe that the terms are used because of the way these animals attack their food or each other. Bears attack by standing up on their hind legs and sending blows downward with their paws,and bulls attack by heaving their big horns upward. This myth can help you remember which one is which, but it is not where they really came from. A longtime ago, "bear skin jobbers" were known for selling bear skins that they did not own because the bears had not yet been caught. This was the original source of the term "bear." This term eventually was used to describe short sellers, specula- tors who sold shares that they did not own, bought after a price drop, and then delivered the shares. If a snake bites you or your friend, then you will need to know what to do. Be prepared. Make sure that you carry a roll of crepe bandage with you when you go for a walk through the bush or long grass. Taking a mobile phone can also be very useful, as you can call for help if you need it. (Sometimes mobile phones do not work in the bush.) First aid: Treat all possible snake bites the same way. You cannot know if it is truly a bite or if the snake is dangerous until later. Do not wash the bite area. If there is some venom on the skin this can help doctors find out which snake caused the bite, so that they can give some anti-venom to help fight the effect of the snake poison. Snake venom travels slowly through the body and first aid treatment is to try to slow this down even more until help arrives. Wrap a bandage firmly around the place where the bite is. This should not be so tight that the blood supply is cut off. If the bandage hurts it is too tight. If the bite was on an arm or leg, wrap another bandage over as much of the limb as possible starting from the fingers or toes. Do not take this bandage off until you reach a doctor or hospital. Stop the person from using the arm or leg by putting on a splint (this can be a long stick). Keep the injured person still. Do not let the person walk to get to help, bring help to the person, or carry the person to help. Try to keep the person calm. Poison spreads faster if the heart beats faster. Remember even though there are lots of poisonous snakes in Australia it is very rare for a person to die from a snake bite now. ~~Some things NOT to do: Do not wait to see if the bite causes any problems, always treat it straight away. Do not cut, wash or suck the bite. Ignore all those old cowboy movies where the hero sucked out the poison! Do not use ice on the bite. It will not be helpful. Do not try to catch the snake. Other people might get bitten too! Do not waste time trying to identify the snake, even experts have trouble working out what snake it is and whether it might be poisonous. Get help. The faster the better. If you need to go somewhere to get help, either leave the person where he/she is with at least one other person, and send off two or more others to get help (remember bush walking safety rules, always walk in groups of two or more). If there are at least two other people, you could try to carry the person to where help is, but don't make the bitten person walk. General important info: All snake bites should be treated as serious even if you are sure that the snake was not poisonous, or if you are not sure that the person was bitten. Most snake bites are on the lower part of the leg. The bite may not be painful even when poison goes in. That's fierce. To research and answer that is. Apparently we can't do it more than three times. You'll just have to use "four times," "five times," and so on for anything more than thrice. It's somewhat analogous to the ordinals, first, second and even third, are separate distinct words, the rest just add 'th';fourth, fifth, thousandth, gazillionth. What would four times be? Force? But the vowels in two and three got changed to "I" so firce? ( The words actually used to be the number with 'se' added, onese, twose, threese, but they morphed into easier things to get ones tongue and pence... uh, pen around. ( Besides onses, twose, etc. could easily be confused with the stages involved in playing jacks.) So fourse? And how would we pronounce sixce. Its all a farce , it makes me tense just to think about. Foods high in potassium: mainly fruits raisins, cantaloupe, bananas, cantaloupe, grapefruit, nectarines, oranges, also potatoes, cabbage, asparagus, green peas, and cauliflower. Foods high in magnesium: almonds, cashews, pecans, kidney and lima beans. Garlic and onions are also useful. Eat fish often I find that a lemon and water mixture, and relaxing will immediately lower your pressure. You must drop sugar, and salt from you diet. You must exercise.
