Useless fact - If I bought a bottle of wine today for $10 and kept it sealed for 50 years, would it be worth a lot more because of its age?
Not all wines improve with age. Those that do have an upper limit of age. It requires constant monitoring of the aging potential of wines to determine at which stage of maturity they are at at any given time. This monitoring can only be done by actually tasting the wines. The results of these wine tastings are closely followed by the wine press, and in turn by the wine investors, who use the data collected to determine in their own minds, the relative value of the wine.
The most important way to tell if your wine is ready to drink, is to taste a bottle. This seeming paradox is one of the best reasons to buy wine by the case. This basically means, that you would end up spending more than 10.00 in the long run, because in 50 years when that bottle is opened for its 'taste test'... you'd better have more on hand to sell, if it has improved and is worth lots of money...
Buy about 5 bottles and store them, do your first taste test in about 10 years, you would be able to tell a difference from its original bottling taste by that amount of time. That is IF you can remember in 10 years what it tasted like. I have a hard time remembering yesterday, let alone what something tasted like 10 years ago.
If it doesn't taste any different, just sit back and continue to drink. The buzz you would have would end up being worth the wait anyway!

Useless fact - Why are all important mafia bosses called Don?
It is a title in Spain (Don/Dona) and Italy (Don/Donna) descending from Latin "dominus," master, lord. For example,if a mafia boss was named Joe Ravioli he would be Don Ravioli. It is also cognate with French/British/Portuguese Dom/Dame and British Dan (judge).
Interestingly, in the movie aspect, you'll note Puzo's "Godfather" can be broken up as God-father.Dominus is the Latin translation for Hebrew Adonai and Greek Kurie,a title of the Lord God.In the book and movie, Don Corleone's titles of Don and Godfather allude to the awe and respect in which he is held, the mastery to which he aspires, and the hubris which he cannot shake.

Useless fact - Are there any remedies to inhibit hair loss and increase hair growth?
How to reverse hair loss - these are helpful tips to help energize hair follicles, but they do not cure any underlying conditions, or stress-related hair loss:
* Try drinking this - blend bananas with honey, yogurt & low-fat milk. A drink rich in biotin can help keep your crowning glory firmly rooted.
* Take dietary supplements such as Vitamin B6, zinc & saw palmetto. Supplements are useful when you can't get enough from natural food sources.
* Invert your head while you shampoo & massage your scalp. This helps promote blood circulation to the head.
* Eliminating stress is good for your entire body and mind, but it will also keep your hair healthy.
* Get enough sleep.
* If you are suffering hair loss make sure to take a look at the medications you are on, if you are on any? Look up their known side effects in a comprehensive drug side effect book, or ask your pharmacist, they often know more about drugs than doctors. Many contraceptive tablets are known to cause hair loss, some contraceptives were in fact invented to reduce facial hair in women, but were found to have the added effect of working as a contraceptive.

Useless fact - What is the origin of Egypt's name?
It's very important to know that the Egyptians did not call themselves Egyptians nor their land Egypt. The Egyptians called themselves Kemites and their land Kemet which means "Land of the Blacks" referring to their ethnic history, culture, blood and most significantly... color of their skin.
The Greeks slapped the land with the name Egypt from the Greek word "Aegyptus". In Greek mythology, Aegyptus, or Aigyptos ("supine goat") was the king of Egypt (which took its name from him), the son of Belus and father of fifty sons who were all but one murdered by the fifty daughters of Aegyptus' twin brother, Danaus.
Aegyptus commanded that his sons marry the Danaides and Danaus fled to Argos, ruled by King Pelasgus. When Aegyptus and his sons arrived to take the Danaides, Danaus gave them to spare the Argives the pain of a battle. However, he instructed his daughters to kill their husbands on their wedding night. Forty-nine followed through, but one, Hypermnestra refused because her husband, Lynceus, honored her wish to remain a virgin. Danaus was angry with his disobedient daughter and threw her to the Argive courts. Aphrodite intervened and saved her. Lynceus later killed Danaus as revenge for the death of his brothers. Lynceus and Hypermnestra then began a dynasty of Argive kings (the Danaan Dynasty).

Useless fact - What's the technical difference between a fruit and a vegetable?
A fruit is a plant ovary/womb. The fruit of a plant contain the seeds of a plant. Vegetables are essentially everything else: seeds (peas and beans), stems (asparagus), leaves (lettuce and, spinach), flowers (broccoli and cauliflower), and roots (carrots and potatoes). Nuts are tree seeds. Peanuts are a variety of beans. Peas and beans are vegetables. Peas in the pod are fruit. String beans, the green bean pod and the beans inside, are fruit. Tomatoes, cucumbers, watermelon, and squash are fruit. Some fruit, however, does not contain real seeds. Few varieties of bananas contain seeds. Strawberries have the seeds on the outside.

Useless fact - Why does wine need to breathe before you drink it?
During their "aging" process in the bottle wines gain a series of different and precious characters, mainly bouquet (smell) and taste (meaning the way your palate and tongue react to it).
Well, the longer time in the bottle the less they need to "breathe". In this case breathe means not more than oxidation. Oxidation, as you probably know, is the the addition of oxygen to a compound with a loss of electrons.
This process is generated differently (slowly) inside of the bottle, but it occurs, so the "Younger" the wine the more breathing it needs. For a very young wine, you can open the bottle many hours before your dining, for an "old" wine can be only a hour or maybe less. In fact if a very old wine breathes too long it will probably collapse (chemically-wise) losing all its properties.
It's also important to know, that in some cases, breathing is not good enough. You also have to decant the wine, this means pouring the whole bottle to a jug or jar. The agitation summed to the aeration (or breathing) will release previously closed aromas and "open" more flavors. Again "decanting" is more important in young wines.
Finally, red wines are usually the ones that need breathing. Salud !! (Cheers !!)
