As much as I would like to see this happen, I have strong doubts it will. Why? The amoral dirtbags in the direct marketing industry already polluted the "Can Spam" act and made it into the "You Can Spam" act. Through the same act, they made emerging IP caller ID technologies being developed by Yahoo, Microsoft and a number of others basically illegal. These fuckers out there think your computer and your e-mail box belongs to them. In the end, the spam assholes will make e-mail completely useless. You'll have to go back to snail mail on paper to get a note sent to anyone reliably.
I swear, I think the amount of spam has more than doubled since that fake spam law went into effect.

Considering Intel cancelled the 4GHz Pentium IV because of heat problems (the 3.8GHz unit already gets as hot as an electric iron) it is extremely doubtful the "Pentium V" chip will debut at any speed near 5GHz.
Near term, Intel will roll out their 600-class numbered Pentium IV chips with 2MB of L2 cache late winter/early spring 2005. Around summertime, those "P5" named chips will appear. The design will be a "dual core" processor with the CPU effectively containing two symmetric CPUs. Each CPU core will have 1MB of L2 cache and probably will debut at a clock speed around 2.4 to 2.8 GHz. AMD, IBM, Motorola and other CPU makers are also fast at work on their dual-core and multi-core CPU designs. It's a pretty solid bet the next Apple CPU (likely the "G6") will be a dual core design. The 3GHz G5 chip was also quietly dropped because of heat concerns.
Overall, I look at the heat problems in CPU design as a good thing. It means the software developers and other players in the computing industry will finally have to get off their dead asses and code multi-threaded applications. They're about 10 years overdue on this, IMHO. For the longest time the only reason for any user to have a dual processor box was to run Adobe Photoshop or some 3D rendering application faster. Now that the speed curve for CPUs is pointing now toward parallel processors (instead of making one CPU faster and hotter) it might create some new directions in computer design.
