That is actually a feasable idea. There is precedent for distributors demanding certain auditoriums for the length of a run. If you had a petition signed by a fairly large group of moviegoers, you might be able to work that angle.

I understand the math idea of being exact, but unless you are afraid of getting sued, it is the concept that counts.

Given all the publicity that Regal and Cobb already have had over this situation, Regal is pretty dumb for not taking care of it.

Evans, I'm too lazy to go find the answer myself ... are these screens really 1.85 or are they those _really_ stupid ones that are 2.0 where flat gets chopped top/bottom too?

Maybe they should be forced to play a snipe "This film has been modified from its original version. It has been formatted to fit our screens."

Adam, They're not 2.00:1. They're definitely less than twice as wide as they are high. Now, the theatre I loved to hate the most, the old Cobb Cinema 8 on South Parkway, had 7 out of 8 screens that were 20x10. I hated those. The people that came up with these designs shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a theatre. They should be treated in the same manner as people who say "bomb" on an airplane.

The biggest obstacle in the way of getting these screens fixed is customer apathy. I really think that 90 percent of customers don't even know that there are two movie formats in common use, and that screens should adjust for both.

Maybe some creative icons and animated banners would help. I wish I were better at those types of things. I'm a scientist, but not much of an artist. I have long hair, but for some reason lack the artistic qualities that long-haired guys usually have.

Somehow, "Film presented in the proper way" doesn't have the same ring to it.

Not to dig up an old issue but as I was reading the Movie Reviews forum, I noticed that people were using things like

when they wanted to say that a movie was bad.

Next time somebody's in the hacking mood, how about a "star" icon so people have something to put up when they think a movie (or some other thing) is good?
