To Eathen: If that were true she would be a member in good standing of "film-tech.com" since I havn't seen her post you must be quiet at home. Therefore you can not speak when you want...only as she dictates. Such is life......whoa is you!! sniff, sniff.

Norman Mailer used (copiously) the euphemistic word "fug" in his novel "The Naked And The Dead" because publishers would not print the real word in 1948. This was the first printed use I know of, either he invented it or had come across it. Mailer certainly knew of Alfred Jarry's use of "Merdre" (ie "shitr")in his play Ubu Roi and the riot resulting at the Paris premiere in 1896...
In 1964 a folk-rock-ish iconoclastic band formed, named "the Fugs" in a tribute of sorts. They were still together in some form in 2001, and still pretty weird. I have their early song "Wet Dream" on MP3 here if someone wants it (a classic!).

Spelling it "phug" is new to me, but I haven't seen it written or heard it spoken lately. The need for a euphemism is gone... publishers don't give a fuck what they print, and I hear words every night on TV that would have earned me lots of trouble 40 years ago if I'd uttered them in earshot of an adult.
