I saw a woman hand-jobbing a guy from the booth window a couple of years ago. They had spread a sweater over the 'naughty bits' but from the movements under the sweater, it was pretty obvious what was happening.

I have probably caught hundreds of customers 'doing it' over the years. We have the older 'perverts' that take care of themselves (tend to be creepy guys), the young horny couples (the most frequent), the prostitutes and the johns, and just the young teenage boys who for whatever reason decide to do their business in public.

Also, over the years, I have caught employees and managers alike involved in the 'nasty' in one way, shape, or form.

Why? I guess they are just human?

[Confused]

Customers having sex in a theater is one thing but employees doing it is out of bounds, AFAIAC.

I get the "sex in a theater" concept. It's dark. There's a risk of getting caught. That brings a certain level of excitement. Not that I'd ever do it but I understand why some people might do it.

But employees?? That doesn't compute!
Okay, maybe on their day off... maybe. But while they are on duty?
That's out of line!

Yes, they should receive a stern verbal warning with a promise of a write-up for the next offense.

No, if I caught an employee with his willy out in a public area of the theater he'd have to convince me why he should not be fired on the spot. If he got down on his nees and begged AND he caught me on a day when I'm feeling especially charitable he'd get a write-up for "ungentlemanly conduct" and a verbal warning that, if I ever catch him doing that again, he'll be canned so fast he'll think he is in a tuna factory!

If there was an especially "provocative" movie playing in the theater at the time and the employee just decided that he "had to have it" right now and he, at least, had the presence of mind to do it in the bathroom I'd probably do as you say, Joe.

I can be pretty tolerant of many things but that kind of behavior is where I draw the line.

I would be careful randy. If you just wrote up the employee and at somepoint in the future they sexually harrased another employee or customer the theatre could be held liable for having knowledge of this type of behavior and not terminating the person.

Ah, the beauty of covering your hind end legally at every opportunity. Sure makes this job fun with everyone always fearing for their jobs!

It really depends on the scenario. Public sex = no no, but if you walk in on someone in a semi-private place, I think it is more understandable.

I keep hearing stories about one guy who had the cops called on him for going out to the parking lot to get a BJ and someone saw him. Due to him being Union, even this didn't get him fired (from what I gather it was during the daytime too, an afternoon quickie as it were). Not that I'd ever do something this senseless, but I get down on one knee and thank God that I'm protected by the Union from little corporate brown nosers that swamp this industry.

Sean, you are correct.

That is why I said you'd have to catch me in an especially charitable mood and the employee would basically have to plead for his life. But I would also add that this employee's behavior would have to be exemplary in every other respect.

In any case, I'd say that any given employee's chances of surviving an incident like that would be 90%-10% against.

Regardless of the outcome, I guarantee the tone of the conversation would be pretty stern.

Jonathan, at least the guy you refer to had the presence of mind to go out to the parking lot to do his "personal business."

Randy: But it was during the day and apparantly it was public enough that someone called the cops. It was the theatre parking lot.

I wasn't there, but I can't really imagine how the story could've been exagereateed [Eek!]

Public area, Randy? But it is OK to have sex in a private area, like the booth or in the concessions back room, right? [Smile]

I tore out the equipment from a closed cinema and found numerous condoms on top of the Altec A4 speakers.

It's some kind of cheap thrill to have sex directly behind the screen where you can see the audience but they can't see you.

[Smile]

Any area where the person should not have reasonable expectation of privacy such as a bathroom with a locked stall door or ones own office with the door locked.

Anybody can walk into a stock room or a janitor's closet. You would reasonably not expect somebody to open the bathroom stall, unannounced, nor would you expect somebody to come barging into your office without knocking first.

This doesn't make it "all right." It just points out degrees of guilt in an "unmentionable" situation.

Jonathan, you're right. When the cops get involved, that's a horse of a different color. My point was, at least the guy went outside to do his business. Doing it in broad daylight was not the swiftest of things to do.

How about just "on the clock"? If they are off the clock, then they need to be behaving as a respectable patron if they are at the theater.

Hahaha, yeah, Joe, what happens in the booth. . . stays in the booth.

Sam, as for doing it behind the screen being a "cheap" thrill, that is relative these days, especially if it's a 3D XD IMAX whatever-it-is in the evening!

That's actually something I'd like to try [Wink]

The real bother with these sorts of things isn't that some people do them and get away with them, it's what they leave behind. . .

Clean up your messes, don't hand them off to us!

Joe, I was working in a theater in Bristol, VA when the GM and I were out back taking a 5 minute cigarette break. A car load of kids came zooming through the parking lot. They were hollering and making a commotion. A couple of them could be seen with open cans of beer.

The manager immediately recognized them as employees. He pointed at them and made the "You're out!" sign like a baseball umpire. About six kids all got fired from the theater even though it was their day off.

One by one, they were handed the write-up the next time they appeared for work: "Intoxication while on theater property" was the charge. Nowhere did it say that the employee had to be on duty. The fact that they were all underage and driving a car at the time just made the charge easier to make stick.
