Where was Emenem's song? I guess if they couldn't get him/didn't want him to sing his own song it would seem strange to have someone else sing it. And that was the song that won. A lot of the awards went to people who didn't show up, and they made up time on those awards. Steve Martin's joke about "they didn't change one word...and that word was on page 89" was funny. "Meryl Streep made me think...and, for that, I shall never forgive her!" He might have been making too much fun at them than with them. With the war and all, there was a lot of tension in the room. We'll see if he gets asked back. Example, did you think the mug shot of Nick Nolte was maybe a little too much? Many of them were very attractive, but it seems like every year there is at least one HOLY SHIT!! moment, but this year there was none (except perhaps Catherine Zeta-Jones' almost spilling over the top of her dress). Booooring. I don't watch the show to see showbiz-types prattling on about their art. I want to see them embarass themselves!! Or at least to see a streaker or some bizarre Snow White dance number that makes you wonder what the producer was thinking. Instead because, as Steve Martin so aptly put it, "The profits from tonight's show go to a few very large corporations," everything's homogenized. Too bad. What a stroke of genius having Jack Valenti come on right after Michael Moore. It probably prevented Valenti from killing Moore backstage. And did anyone else think that the Robert Blake joke was a bit over the top? I say bring back Letterman. And I was referring to Steve Martin's joke, about how they couldn't find Mickey Rooney a better seat (he was way in the back), because Vin Diesel was there. I thought this year was the worst Oscar show I've seen. While I am normally a huge fan of Steve Martin, his opening 10 minutes was just downright rude. Instead of poking fun at the stars like past hosts, he flat out was insulting to them. After the show was over I played it back and actually paid attention to it. (I rarely *really* watch it live, but it is usually on in the background.) I felt like I was scanning through more montages than there were commercials!!! Really now, I understand that this is the 75th year of these awards, but enough already! They could have had a "75 years of bloated awards ceremonies" pre-show montage from hell and cut an hour+ off of the actual ceremony. And what was with that huge waste of time where they got as many of the past winners (oh excuse me, I meant "recipients") up on stage and named them off for 15 minutes??? I have already made my argument in another thread regarding playing an ENTIRE song, but only showing a minute or less of clips from a movie. What's up with that? Let's be fair next year and give them a maximum of 20 seconds to hear the main verse and put us out of our misery. Take that time to let the winners (oh my there I go again, excuse me, I meant "recipients") of the awards actually talk for a few minutes. I clocked the Adrian Brody speech at 4 minutes and 5 seconds...and they didn't even bother trying to cut him off until a full 2 minutes had passed. And are the technical awards just not deserving of more than a minute? Without the techie nerds and their inventions, these movie stars would not exist! Give the guys behind the scenes a shot in the limelight for a few minutes already. Bring back Letterman! That was by far the best awards show of all time. And let's have Chris Elliott accept EVERY award with a bs speech whenever the winner isn't present. (Damn, I said winner again. Awww screw it! That's a stupid change anyway.)  |  IP: Logged
