It's a slang word that means, "Something you give your wife so she won't get mad." For instance, if you come home late for dinner and you know she's going to yell, "I slaved over a hot stove...", so you make a quick detour to the florist shop and bring your wife some flowers. My understanding of the literal translation is, "Food for the dragon", so when you say, "Dragon fodder" it sounds like we're on the same track. The person who told me what "Drachenfutter" means was an elder relative. (Uncle) It may very well be a Yiddish word.
