They make the worlds best cranes there....no joke. Not a whole lot to do there to speak of, but the Stage Door at the old theatre down town might offer you some night life....its been a long time since I was up there. There was some old Pizza Place just off the Lake, and a great German Bar in Two Rivers ya know hey. The German bar served great Brunschweiger Sandwiches and Octoberfest Beer. Also, be sure to buy a heavy Fur coat for the winters and keep a ton of sand and a huge snow shovel in your car for winter months. 40 below is not uncommon there before wind chill!! Once after doing an all day service stint at the Strand I came out only to find my van totally engulfed in a snow drift! I managed to get out but I can't exactly remember how I did it. Glad you made it up to Door County. My dads brother has a cottage right on Lake Michigan, south of Baileys Harbor. Spent lots of fun(but cold) times up there. I believe the bar you are referring to is Kurtz's in Two Rivers, and the Pizza Place, Port Sandy Bay, both of which I pointed out to Rachel during "tours". I was going to take her to see Al Johnson's while we were in Door County, but she got moving too late that day (or maybe it was "we", I forget) so we only did Whitefish Dunes and Cave Point. We still have the cold, but not as much snow now. I actually traded in the snowmobile for jet skis because I was so sick of driving 6 hours to find enough snow - and then you had to pay to shack up for the weekend (vying for space with the 1000 other people up there too!). Rachel claims it gets cold and snowy over where she is too, and I think they actually get more snow than us now. Rachel's going to be starting at the Strand when she comes here. It won't be much to begin with compared to what she is doing and how much she is making where she is now, but Bob Johnson seems more serious than ever that he is building his second facility this year, in which case she would become his version of a "GM" for the 2 buildings (or at least have enough shifts available to be working nearly full-time). We will know by the end of July - if he doesn't break ground by then or soon after we will have to start looking for something better. We sent her resume to Marcus, and Bob Johnson put in a good word with someone higher up there, but they never contacted her. Of course the disadvantage of going with someone "corporate" like Marcus is that your hands are tied with everything you do, and they work you like a rented mule - never giving you time off... It is pretty flexible working at the Strand. As I became established in my new town (moved out of the hotel to an apartment) I slowly began buying the things I needed, etc. To feel at home in a town where I know nobody I put some pictures up of my family and friends.
