There wouldn't need to be any more than that because the auditoriums would be very large giant. Here we go: Biggest house seats 8,012 people. Smallest would seat only 4,096. Screen will be 360 feet wide (small screen would be only 120 feet). Sound would kick ass. 296 subwoofers alone (each screen). Surrounds all over the place and a crazy array of JBL speakers behind da screen. Projectors would be Redifer Super Fab 70 gearless beltless oiless maintenanceless projecto-bots. Lamphouses would be Redifer Supa Brite Sun Consoles (each lamphouse would have a miniature heatless sun inside instead of using lame ass xenon bulbs or carbon arcs). Platters would be Redifer Smooth-N-Easy (just like me!). Automation would be Redifer Ass Kickin' Cinema Controllin' Do Anything 2000 Turbo series. The building would be the size of a power plant. Projectionists would have private parking in the booth. There would be a basketball court and a football field in the booth as well as an amusement park in case the projectionist got bored. There would also be a McDonalds and a Good Times in the booth which offers the projectionist free food. The projectionist would make $200,000 million a year and the projectionist would also be me. There would be moving sidewalks all over the place so no one had to walk, even in the booth. The surrounding communities and resort areas add up to a market of about 15,000. I think a 4-plex with about 250 seats per house would work here. Three houses would be platters, and the fourth would be changeover and a platter, and also be capable of 16mm, video and dailies screenings for film productions (we were almost the dailies house for WATERWORLD ). All houses would be able to interlock. SR, SRD and DTS. QSC DCA amps and JBL speakers. Panastereo processors. The changeover house at least would be equipped for 1.33, 1.66, 1.85 and 2.35. There's even a good location; on the back side of the shopping center here. Considering the last post was so long ago and much has changed, what would you now do to make your "dream theater"? Looking back at my original post, I'd keep it relatively the same but also add Cinerama, state of the art digital projectors to complement 35 and 70 of course, and IMAX 15/70. I'd also add Coke too: I've never seen a theatre that has both Coke AND Pepsi. Alcohol would also be available for intermissions on roadshow performances. Sound would be perfect, and we'd have a tech in residence to always tweak the audio. The bass would be capable of making people poo. Why limit it to that? At Regency we had alcohol available at ALL times for ALL shows. People love drinking. I'd keep it for roadshows only to make them more special, keep the ticket price higher and more exclusive, and...and...well, I don't know the third reason. Oops. I don't think we could sell that much. Four 35-mm. film projectors with high-intensity carbon arc light, 3⅓" square slide elbows with same light of course, tube amplifier, reel-to-reel machine, lots of trickery: Curtains, veils, plackets, panoram models on stage as well as flying gadgets on invisible threads, you know, it should be a playful place. Technically, everything by direct current from a ton of accumulators in the basement, 48 Volt being the tension. No hum, no hiss, no crackles, and perfectly dimming hall lights. Iʼd open with all the big black-and-white classics such as The Third Man (Greene-Reed), I Soliti Ignoti (Monicelli), Les enfants du paradis (Prévert-Carné), Jour de fête (Tati), Top Hat (1935), . . . Cinema was a if not the phenomenon of the transition time from the gone plutonic era to new age. People joined something irresistibly calling like a herd of sheep in a way that we donʼt feel no more. Silent cinema can be re-awakened for those who must indulge in moon-silvery shadows, so to speak, the Swing era between 1939 and 1958 then pulling one to heights impossible to establish numerically. Of course a lot of Kitsch would be on the bill. I think cinema is Kitsch. Schund in my language, tripe. But we love every frame of it, donʼt we? Cinema is the artificial sun on rainy days. The tickets will have to be letterpress printed.
