Well, I finally said screw it and bought a Mac! What have I really been missing all this time?! I haven't had this much fun computing in ages. Your cross hair cursor will turn into the icon of a camera. When you move your camera-cursor over a menu or window or any other item it will highlight. When you click your mouse button it will take a picture of just the highlighted item. To know how to help you, we'd need to know which software you use. Interestingly, Mac OSX will not let you run Grab while playing a DVD, and DVD Player provides no capture functionality. Interesting that companies nowadays are getting so paranoid about intellectual property that they refuse to allow their software to be used even for 'fair use' image captures...
