But you should consider what goes on at the multiplexes on a Thursday. We are building prints, breaking others down, moving prints from larger to smaller theaters, building trailer cores, changing out old trailers, and during this time we are threading and starting the regular Thursday night shows. There is also paper work to do. We have program data sheets on each console, listing the starting times of features and the running times of each trailer. Once these sheets are done, you have to do them all over again if you are going to make last minute changes. Then there is Friday's projection schedule, entered into the main computer and printed out. We then "annotate" the schedules to show changes of films in theaters where we are double or triple booked, and format changes as well. Last minute changes create extra work: print a new schedule and annotate it, times four copies. It's not simply a matter of "changing a trailer". You may think this one is worth it, but I don't. I also noticed that we were not exactly packing them in today for Second Hand Lions, either. I and my staff have more than enough work to do as is. I resent having to do more just because some jackass out on the west coast thinks it would be great to throw on an extra trailer and run an add for it in the local paper, and then expect the multitudes to flock to the theaters. Typical Hollywood copycat thinking. It's already been done. Guess what??? Ain't going to happen again at our theater. Put it right before the Elf trailer on secondhand Lions. I had two prints to build and changed out the add packs along with other needed trailer changes and ran the booth. What's the differance between adding that trailer and taking off a trailer for a feature that just opened and adding one in it's place. If New Line wanted these trailers on whatever film they should have had them ready to be shipped out with whatever film. Not tagging along a week or even two days, or even a day later. Since they're not remunerating the theatre for this extra work, the least they can do is get their act together and ship everything out together. Now if they want to send along $2 to pay my wage for the 5 minutes it might take to make the change (let alone any paperwork) then I might consider doing it for them. quote: . . . Starting Today At Selected Theatres". New Line included that last phrase to fend off any possible lawsuits. Yeah, like nobody else has ever put that on their advertising material. I also think they delayed it for a week so that Secondhand lions would generate revenue based only on it's merrits not the fact that Return of the King was on it. If my GM hadn't personally told me it would of went to the pile of other trailers that i just dont use. Yes, New Line sucks for making theatres deal with this. But your not doing this for them. Your doing this for your customers. The same people for which you practice "film done right". Because New Line is being so dumb and advertising it, the customers expect this trailer to be attatched. In my book it is bad customer service not to attatch this trailer. When customers pay and expect to see the trailer and then dont, how does that reflect on your theatre? If you dont play the trailer, It is importaint to have signs, as suggested earlier in the topic, that inform the customers before they purchase tickets. Some of you guys may consider streamlining your paperwork involved in changing trailers. I don't understand why adding a trailer effects scheduling for films. The best way to sick it to new line, is to allow the film to move to the smaller house with fewer showtimes, just as you had originally planned to do before you knew about the trailer. I guess my point is ths: If you dont like it, complain to New Line. It will then get progressively worse and worse up until the point where trailers are being advertised on all movies and you will find yourself spending the entire Thursday night changing out previews. Trust me, it will never end and it will get worse with every month. As it stands already Thursday nights are rushed to get prints assembled, so why should the studios even consider getting those mandatory trailers to the theaters on Wednesday? It won't happen and your Thursday nights will become even more of a panic situation to get everything done and theaters will incur more and more payroll costs to bring more people into the booth to get it all done. Jack Valenti is always yelling about how piracy is costing this industry billions of dollars. Well Mr. Jack, just how much is forcing theaters to bring on extra projection staff on Thursday nights costing this industry? Oh no wait, I keep forgetting the theaters themselves don't matter. Remember 10 years ago when Technicolor started shipping prints to be received to the theaters on Thursdays? Back then, it was not uncommon at all to receive the weekend's prints on Monday or Tuesday. There was plenty of time to do full inspections at a comfortable pace and the films could be assembled over a few day's time with normal projection staffing. See what that one little acceptance of Thursday deliveries did to the theaters since no one took a stand against it? No way in hell is that trailer ever going to play in front of Secondhand Lions at my theater and probably a whole lot of other theaters too based upon principle alone. If I only had one trailer in the cabinet and needed something for Secondhand Lions, I would play nothing. On the other hand, any trailer that is requested by the studio for something along these lines, if enclosed in the can or received by Wednesday, I WILL put it on. We had ours by tuesday if my memory serves me right. It was also enclosed with a note asking to have it put on Secondhand Lions, but not specifying a spacific date, so we attatched it immeadiately. I try to hop in and watch it each time i start it to guage crowd response, and there are allways a few who clap. Oh, and Manny, read the post above Brad's. These trailers are importaint to the customers. Mabey you should just loop it over and over in your lobby. (just kidding) But i still stand by my opinion that this trailer needs to be attatched, not necessarily on the thursday night, but just somepoint over the weekend, at your leasure.  |  IP: Logged
