Never had one. Dentist couldn't believe it, for as good a overall condition my teeth are in. Anyway, I drive a commercial vehicle, so I can't have serious pain medication. The only things I've been on are Advils. I'm down to taking 2 or 3, about twice a day now. Was taking it four times a day. Still have lower jaw pain occasionally (can't tell if it's dry sockets or not... not sure how much pain is too much). I guess if I can live with it, it'll be okay. I say pulled, I had to have two extracted, as they were impacted. I had no real issues, save cussing out the pharmacy employee because they didn't accept my BCBS insurance card... My buddy had fun telling everyone about this over the next few days... and he stood back and luaghed while I did it.. bastage... I never went back in the place and it has since closed.. ANYWAY, back to the point, I ate much chicken noodle soup, jello, pudding and the next day I ate some sort of sandwich, soaked in, of course, chicken noodle soup. Drank plenty of OJ and had a few Percodan's and I was good to go. I had little to no pain after the 2nd day, so I slipped the scrip' back in the ol medicine cabinet for future use... *note to Phil* if your drink tastes funny, and you feel a little tingly... you have been warned... LOLOL... It's really funny how dif'rent folks react to this. I had two impacted teeth that were literally cut out and had little pain at all and NO swelling. Others I know blew up like a pufferfish.. and they claim it hurt like hell... Diet & maintenance have a lot to do with it, but where you live can have a huge impact, too. Dentists were absolutely fascinated by Tuskegee, AL because even though the residents were almost all impoverished, they had the most incredible perfect, white, long-lasting teeth, & no one could figure out why. Turned out that the water from the well had fluoride in it, research & experimentation proved that was why, & that's where the fluoridation campaigns came from. And no, it doesn't make you stupid or sterile. No more stupid than Tuskegee residents Booker T. I take calcium and that good stuff but it doesnt seem to help. As for my wisdom teeth, they are growing in just fine but they are hard to keep clean. I had mine removed decades ago when I was in Jr. High School. No complications/pain. Everything was very smooth! The orthodontist wanted to fit me with every teenagers dream...braces! My wisdom teeth were growing forward and pushing my other teeth out of alignment. Well, my parents...especially my Dad wanted to postpone braces to see if my teeth straightened out on their own after the pressure from the wisdom teeth was removed. I fell asleep on the couch and just woke up now. Anyway, I guess I didn't have it to bad when they actually extracted them. They put me under and gave me shots. I don't think I was ever actually asleep, I just had no clue what was going on. It seemed like only a few minutes later that the dentist's (or oral surgeon, whatever) assistant came in and told me I was done. She kept telling me to keep my eyes open, but I fell asleep like three times in a minute. So I guess it didn't suck until the shots wore off. But then I could definitely feel it. Everything's feeling fine now, but that usually changes when I try to eat something. My mouth tastes like crap and I must have terrible breath, but I'm not allowed to brush until this afternoon. I think I'll go try the chicken soup idea. The first time, there was only slight swelling and I was able to eat three hours later. The second time, it was slightly worse, but wasn't too bad. I had all 4 done at the same time. I was sedated so I felt no pain during the procedure. Recovery didn't take too long, but was sore for quite a while. Fortunatly I didn't have any dry socket, I was dreading that. However one problem that I had was that one of the lower tooth's roots were entwinted with the blood vessel and nerve that runs from there that the dentist had a very difficult time extracting the tooth. My cheeks are swollen now, so I guess I won't be avoiding that one. Oh well, I'll get over it. I went most of today without any drugs, but then I got pretty sore and caved in.
