Since being employed in 1998, I do most of my teaching at an off-campus facility called the Lawrence County Learning Center or the LCLC. Flashlight 21 Productions and Refinne Productions. I started Flashlight 21 about five years ago and Refinne started around 3 years ago. Flashlight 21 Productions is a company, in the creation, production, distribution, and marketing forms of... video movies, music, artwork, and actors/actresses who are represented by this company. Refinne Productions is the "sister company" of Flashlight 21. It is centered around the publication of written works; screenplays, stageplays, song lyrics, poems, and books. Which will all be published through the Internet from it's website(still in the works). There's not much that has been going on with this company lately. As of this past November, I've been with the firm for 15 years. I enjoy what I do when it's challenging, but when it's repetative, it's boring as hell. I design and draw Water and Sewage Treatment Plants, Water Storage Tanks, and various types of pumping stations. During my theatre's operating season, I leave the office in Nashville at 4:30 in the afternoon(M-F), and then work at the drive-in from 5:30p.m. - 12:00a.m. ...7 nights a week. Although the day job is about as steady as it can be, I have found it VERY difficult to separate my "drive-in stuff" during my hours at the office, almost to the point where it costs me my job. My wife and I are seriously considering me leaving the "day job" in May, and focusing all of my time at the drive-in. It's hard to give up an almost sure thing, especially when it provides the sole household income and feeds the kids, but I almost feel it necessary to ensure the success and profitability of our theatre.  |  IP: Logged Josh Jones Redhat Posts: 1207 From: Plano, TX Registered: Apr 2000 posted 02-14-2005 08:50 PM                        By day, I go to school at Minnesota State Community and Technical College, working twords a degree in communication electronics. This in itself, is a full time job. Somewhere in there I also work projection at the Fargo, work as assistant engineer for 7 radio stations, and (volunteer, sortof) as chief engineer of KNDS-LP, a 100 watt FM station on the campus of NDSU. I didnt exactly expect to have to climb the 138' tower on top of Ladd hall and hang an ERI rototiller at the top. So I guess I can also include tower climbing on my list of qualifications As for commercial radio, I recently installed a harris 1KW solid state am transmitter for KBMW in wahpeton, ND. Pics here . Posts: 10973 From: Lawton, OK, USA Registered: Apr 2001 posted 02-14-2005 09:37 PM                     My day job is senior designer for a large sign manufacturing company that services most of Oklahoma and parts of North Texas and even areas into Kansas, New Mexico and Colorado. I handle much of the bigger electrical sign projects while others in our studio handle the "fast signs" work (banners, window graphics, etc.). I also do freelance graphic design work, but nothing sign related as that would be an obvious conflict of interest. Much of my freelance work is print-oriented. I usually avoid doing web graphics projects for a variety of reasons, the main one being there's usually not enough money in it to be worth the time. I'd like to be doing more in the video motion-graphics area. But I think I'm going to wind up doing more of that with my day job in creating content for color LED video message centers than anything freelance related.  |  IP: Logged Adam Fraser Master Film Handler Posts: 499 From: Houghton Lake, MI, USA Registered: Dec 2001 posted 02-14-2005 10:37 PM                        I work at our family furniture store Thurs, Fri, Sat 10-5 that is located across the parking lot from our theatre. It is enjoyable most of the time. My tasks there include anything from assembling furniture, repairing broken stuff, selling furniture to taking out the trash. At 5 I walk over to the theatre where I work 5 nights a week in the off season and 7 nights a week from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Also, this past year I got my motorcycle mechanic license and work on motorcycles, ATV's and snowmobiles in my spare time out of my garage. Usually amounts to 35-45 hours a week in the off season and 75-85 hours a week in the summer as we have no employees outside the immediate family and our partner in our businesses.  |  IP: Logged William T. Next year I'll be doing Masters work at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. Very few people are able to have any type of job there while going to school; kind of an unwritten policy. I guess it means that officially I won't be working for a few years. Then theres always the chance that I'll basically get drafted- no joke. Even though I'm almost forty years old quite a few people I've served with have actually been recalled to duty. Strange that they don't refer to it as a draft. Besides the close quarters combat one of the more difficult aspects of the job is that theres all kinds of people who have been called up to duty and had to give up their regular day jobs while serving. The problem with that is: how is the "average person" who makes in excess of 36k a year (minimum), now sopposed to pay the bills while making a third of that while in the military. Many soldiers are coming home to discover that their house is on the borderline of being sold at a Sherriffs sale, that the cars about repo'd, and that their credit is effectively killed for the next seven to ten years. Then there are those soldiers that are maiking around 10k, who are assigned to guard the civilians which literally make well over TEN TIMES that amount. Another factor is: hows one supposed to care for their child while serving?? Oh well it could be worse. THe cameras I repair are used for inspections of the inner working of a nuclear reactor. Checking to make sure that all the welds and pumps are in good shape and no cracks or breaks, I work on a bench that is set up for me on the refuel floor which is right on the top of the reactor. It takes a while to get used to repairing cameras that are small to begin with and then to do it all in protective clothing and cloth gloves and surgical gloves over that.
