Author Topic: Hurrican Rita Jason Burroughs Jedi Master Film Handler Posts: 654 From: Allen, TX Registered: Jun 99 posted 09-21-2005 06:07 PM                     Good thing the lakes are already somewhat low, to contain all the storm runoff. Since Dallas is about 250 miles inland, we shouldn't Rita at hurricane stregnth, but surely in the path for tropical storm, or tropical depression stregnth winds/rain. Since its is so dry around here, a lot of the rain will just run off. Lots of rain in a very short period. One of the models today had the storm moving up into OK, then turning SOUTH and coming BACK! Let's hope that one doesn't pan out. Take much care, everyone in the path of this monster. Projections say it will drop to a CAT 4 by landing time, but that is still fast enough to really cause some big time damage. Now this maybe a little strange, but I think loudspeaker manufactures should start naming there sub bass speakers after hurricanes….. I know not very funny….. If that track holds, the Houston metro may escape the worst of the storm's winds. Don't know how that would work out concerning the storm surge. Folks in Beaumont and Port Arthur...they're under the gun. Those cities may get the worst of it. Hope all those folks are evacuated. Even Lake Charles, LA may get some pretty serious damage.  |  IP: Logged James R. We had a rough time getting out (RV broke down and 2 cats ran off while were were transporting people between the RV and the other two vehicles ) but our experience traffic-wise was heaven compared to what others have been experiencing (and some still are). We arriven in Opelousas late last night and have been monitoring the news. The Eastern turn has made us nervous, but for now we are staying here. We do have things ready to pack up and leave quickly if we need to though. Jeremy, be safe. The only thing we ever see of them is a good rainstorm and maybe some minor flooding. Irregardless, however, I've put myself in many of your positions (especially Jeremy's) and figured I'd probably stay. I think in the end I'd rather try and face the storm in my home than out on the interstate halfway between San Antonio and the Gulf Coast. My uncle lives in south Florida. He never evacuated, even when Andrew hit in 1992. When you ask him about it he just quietly says, "Where are you going to go?".  |  IP: Logged Daryl C. W.
