Turns out the storm made a turn towards where we were staying, but all we got was rain and heavy wind. In fact, I slept through the worst of it. I only woke up to no power and small limbs on the ground. A tree had fallen on power lines nearby so we were without power for our last two days there. We drove home along I-10 so we got to see some of the wreckage as we passed by. When we got back, we fisrt stopped off at my girlfriend's parents' house to unload some of their stuff and get our vehicles that we had left. When we got inside, we found one of the cats that we thought had run away. We were watching one of our friend's cats and apparently, when we were putting the cats into the RV, we thought we had them all, but had left him behind. I guess in the rush to get out of there, we had forgotten him. Poor thing stayed in the house all alone with no power (meaning no air conditioning) for 4 days. Luckily, one of the toilet seats was left up, so he had water to drink. I felt bad because it was I who was putting the cats in and forgot to check to make sure we had them all. Unfortunately, the other cat that did run off didn't fare so well. When they went back the following day to get the RV, he was laying on the side of the road, most likely hit by a car. Our fish, on the other hand survived those 4 days in one of those cups you get at a sporting arena. We had a couple of scares, but she pulled through. Even though our area got a lot of wind and rain, wverything at home was fine. In fact, the empty trash can in our back yard was still standing. Our neighbors next door said the power must have never gone out, because his alarm clock was still set when he got home. We had unplugged everything. The most fortunate people I know of through this whole ordeal were my girlfriend's brother and his family. The ended up in a place that got a direct hit and had to run to different houses three different times because trees had fallen on them and they started to collapse. They eventually ended up in an underground dirt bunker where they were trapped for 12 hours before being pulled out. There were 23 people and a few animals and none of them were harmed. We got back Sunday night and I took off work Monday so we could resituate ourselves. Glad to see you lucked out Jeremy.
