Are the stunt people still snubbed? I know they don't get anything at the show. But they really carry a film too. Special Effects and other artists that create the magic of movies are honored. Marion Cotillard's win for Best Actress may have been the biggest surprise. I figured either Julie Christie or Ellen Page would get the Oscar. Julie Christie took the Screen Actors Guild award. Ellen Page won the Film Independent's Spirit Award for Juno. Tilda Swinton looked genuinely surprised when she won the Best Supporting Actress award for Michael Clayton. Ruby Dee and Cate Blanchett seemed to be bigger favorites for that prize. Tilda's jokes about George Clooney and his Batman suit were pretty funny. It was pretty cool to see Diablo Cody win the Best Original Screenplay award. Pretty wild tattoo on her shoulder. I liked her acceptance speech. I was a bit surprised Transformers got shut out in the technical categories. The Golden Compass beat Transformers in the visual effects category. Brad simply must love it that The Bourne Ultimatum won for Best Film Editing, Best Sound and Best Sound Editing. Maybe the Academy needs to come up with an award for "Best Shaky Cam!" I've seen bits and pieces of No Country. I might see Juno but not sure if we'll play it or not. (My wife went and saw it with a friend when she was in Billings a while ago but prints have been too scarce in this area for us to play it.) Some years we play all or most of the Oscar winners. Some years we hardly play any of them because they're mostly boxoffice flops. This is one of those years, simple as that. The highest Ratings it got was the year of "Titanic". I didn't watch it this year... watched only about 10 min. of it last year. Griffith - I'd have been more likely to tune in for that than to this bunch! Too many nowadays. It's a shame, because whatever one may say, they do a terrific job staging the ceremony. I always love for example the segments on the different filmmaking crafts, the special awards and the tributes to great artists and craftspeople. It reinforces this side of the medium, which is regrettably always ignored by the media as they focus only on the celeb aspect of the event. And the Academy does great work outside of the awards as well. It's easy to overlook that in the annual "Oscars" hype.  |  IP: Logged
