I'm working with the Academy Film Archive at the moment on a project to produce a disaster planning and recovery guide for film, TV and audio archives. They've also been very proactive and have achieved a great deal in educating the public as to the cultural importance of home movies and other ephemeral film, and run a fantastic research library which is open to anyone. This work, along with the 'sciences' in AMPAS's full name, tends to take a back seat on Oscars night, sadly. It would be a great tribute to John Pytlak if his wonderful acceptance speech (every bit the equal of those of the 'arts' contingent) serves as a template for bringing the 'sciences' bit to a broader public.  |  IP: Logged Phil Blake Jedi Master Film Handler Posts: 558 From: esperance western australia Registered: Nov 2003 posted 02-29-2008 03:41 AM                        I have only just had a chance to watch the Oscars from the other night. Oh, please. Letterman has more imagination in his little finger than Jay Leno. It's true he's not to everyone's taste (what comedian is?) but his show is consistently praised by critics and has won far more Emmys than Leno's. As far as dropping stuff off buildings and diving dogs and such....he's still doing that! All he does is lick their asshole. Jay is only good for Headlines, sometimes other bits and sometimes monologues. What I don't like about Dave is that if something he says gets a laugh, it will be repeated over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over like crazy!  |  IP: Logged
