Back in the late 1990s 60 Minutes had a feature about this topic and the Australian scientist responsible for much of the breakthrough on ulcer treatment. According to that feature, American drug companies did indeed set out to ruin the guy. He was threatening their multi-billion dollar business of selling worthless acid reducing medicines as ulcer treatments. It was only after others had confirmed this guys findings about stomach bacteria that those same American drug companies did an about face.
1) Just because a show makes a claim it doesn't make it true
2) The person in question has said stuff like "In the beginning everyone was against me" (paraphrased) but throughout most of the time that the research was being done he was among those who were extremely cautious. Also, in 1995 Marshall himself conceded that Koch's postulate (which is the standard by which a microbial cause of a disease is demonstrated) had not been fulfilled.
3) Also, the problem with saying that there was a conspiracy against him is that even if there were one, it was most clearly a resounding failure from the get-go considering the massive amount of research that came out shortly after the initial results.

Sad news. I didn't recognize the name (that in itself doesn't mean anything as I'm terrible with names), but upon checking her IMDB entry it seems that I have seen her in some stuff.

RIP.

Maybe "appears" to be natural means....oh I dunno, it "appears" to be natural. Hence the word appears and not definitely.

Maybe she died of an overdose, but what difference does it make? What is the point of making accusations and assumption? Does it make everyone feel better that they get to continue living their minute lives while someone famous died early? Sometimes young people die, shocking, I know. I had a friend a few years ago that died in his sleep at age 22. My cousin had a friend that had a heart attack at 18 while watching tv in her living room, no one even realized that she died at first. But hey if this girl dying somehow makes you guys feel better about getting another day to sit on your computers, then I guess there is at least a silver lining.

Natural causes is only used if the dead person is over 80, or when they don't want to tell the "real" cause of death. On the other hand, it's nobody's damn business anyway so what's the difference?

No, my point was about how Hollywood seems to drive people toward a drug-induced early death, not about any feeling of shadenfreude at her early passing.

Really great post Chris Hipp. I was going to reply to this thread with the same thoughts, only in a more sarcastic way [thumbsup]
Not sure why, but when a celeberity dies, it's a mad rush for people on film-tech to see who can post it first. I could understand if they were friends or family or had worked together, not just because they were famous.

I'll go ahead and state the obvious. Considering Murphy's young age and the circumstances leading up to this chances are strong her death is due to a drug overdose.

Unless you knew her or have other info, how can you even say that?

Oh yeah what the fuck does

How? Answer: there is a long list of young movie and music celebrities who have died by abusing drugs & alcohol (not to mention abusing a lot of people around them).

Also, some of the news reports suggested Murphy's career was in a state of decline due to difficult on set behavior. With one report saying she was fired from her last film The Caller, it's difficult for me not to think of a young, self-centered drug abusing lady just showing up for work whenever she felt like it. Hell, there's lots of young people all over this nation who tweek their brains into a lump of scar tissue and then not be able to hold down a damned job.

By the way, I don't feel good at all about Murphy dying. Anyone wanting to accuse me of that directly or indirectly can politely fuck off. Drug and alcohol abuse is a pretty serious thing that has negatively affected some of my personal friends and relatives. This past August my next door neighbor died of liver failure as a long term consequence of alcoholism. She was only 42. One of my cousins lost his wife to suicide 2 years ago. She was abusing drugs which compounded her severe bipolar condition she was neglecting. So one day, which turned out to be her daughter's birthday, she walked out into the back yard with a shotgun and fired it into her face. Really nice.

I'm very aware of my own mortality. I have seen people die in front of me for real. That stuff scares me. It doesn't make me feel good at all when a celebrity like Brittany Murphy or Heath Ledger or even Michael Jackson dies. Instead, it just feels like a needless wasteful tragedy that could have been prevented. But no, let's just party party party and take stupid chances instead. Screw moderation. Drinking or even doing drugs in moderation is for pussies!

I thought she was 32. She looks 42, maybe 52.

Anyway, people die all the time. I am in the camp that believes that we shouldn't try and make people live forever. Live better, yes. Longer, who cares? The world is already much too overpopulated as it is, though that does give us a good excuse to explore space and other planets. [Smile]

I was talking about my next door neighbor. My next door neighbor was only 42 when she died this past August.

One of the newscasts this evening went so far as to mention cocaine abuse in it's report, not only by Brittany, but also other family members.

A good many F-T members have jobs that, whether directly or indirectly, just happen to relate to the Hollywood film industry pretty heavily. If a member of that industry dies, it seems reasonable for a post about that person's death to appear in the forums.

From wikipedia
quote:
In medicine, death by natural causes is a loosely-defined term used by coroners describing death when the cause of death was a naturally occurring disease process, or was not apparent given medical history or circumstances.

Sure, but is it the coroner who said Natural Causes in this case? Or was it the family/media? (Since I barely know who Brittany Murphy is, I haven't paid any attention to the news reports.)
