Don't seem to have EX. No speakers on the back just the booth windows taking the whole lenght!!! or most of it. Ex is a dead breed anyway unless something happens!

Yeah, the scary thing is that he replaced the Raid can with WD40...I wonder if he is trying to control his pests with WD40 now...or perhaps the problem was crickets and instead of killing them...lubricating them stops the annoying chirps!

An annoying "feature" of the CP650 is that once you put in the Cat 790, 791, 778 to deal with DCinema or other AES audio...you get EX for the ride, whether you want it or not! You HAVE to rewire the surrounds (use the Option I/O). And if you don't choose to wire it in EX fashion, then you need to carefully balance out your system to the right levels...an EX enabled CP650 presumes the rear channels are there when you are calibrating your 82dBc per channel...if you don't compensate for that, your surrounds will play low and if you get an EX film...and sound is panned to the rear, you get nothing. I'm surprised that Odyssey Products on one of their 10-billion CP650 breakout boards hasn't come up with a passive solution (resistively combine Ls/BLs and likewise for Rs/BRs so negate this. I'm even MORE surprised one can just tell the CP650 in a set up screen...configure the outputs for just 5.1 That would be just too easy for someone!

Steve, I don't have those cards you mention, but I can turn EX on and off in my CP650's. With it off it all seems to set up fine. There is no adjustment in the menu for the levels of the back surrounds (unless it is presuming I am doing it at the amp level). Adding these cards forces the EX option to remain on?

No, you can tell the CP650 to not auto-EX but it presumes you have the rear speakers.

Thus, if you set up your surrounds to the prescribed 82dBc/side...when you play the film in format 10 (non-EX)...the actual level will be closer to 79-80dBc/side since it presumes that the rear channels would have brought it back up to 82dBc.

I am suprised no one has mentioned the AWESOMENESS of the "Seeburg Background Music System" yet! Awesomeness!
I am more impressed by this device than any other in the system or for that matter the whole system combined!

Seriously Brad, Where in the world did you find this thing? From reading about it on the inter tubes (see link above) I learned that it was a competitor to Muzak but instead of source material being piped from telco lines they sent you thier own cartridges or records or something?

It is indeed awesome. I had never seen anything like it. There are styli on the top and bottom of the tone arm. It plays tracking above or below. The fidelity in the screening room was quite good.

The Durra is a magic wall. It looks like bits of sawdust glued together, but it just works. There is a furring channel (cavity) between the sheetrock and the Durra. This permits the sheetrock to shake before the sound hits the Durra. I stood about 20 feet away from the front exit door with a movie running extremely loud and passing traffic made much more noise than the leakage from the room. Check it out. Its good stuff.

Its called the Basis and that issue is resolved internally.

Yes, awesomeness abound! I believe this was a 1960'ish machine and Seeburg was the company that created background music. Muzak took over the market in the 70s and turned it into godawful elevator music, but the Seeburg stuff is awesome.

My machine has been modified to have a plexiglass cover, a mirrored background and of course, rope lights so you can see the awesomeness of the mechanism itself. There are a few more things to do to it, but it is pretty impressive as it stands. The content on the records is just as awesome as the machine.

The machine holds 25 or so special records on it and will play for something like 40 hours before it resets the stack.
