I used to be able to receive KFI and KNX on the AM band in Lubbock. Newer AM radios seem quite crappy now. I can get KNX on iTunes radio. I would have to go to KFI's website to stream that audio.

Newer radios may lack sensitivity, or have insufficient antennas, etc. However another issue to reception these days is the proliferaton of noisy consumer electronics "junk" ie. computers, TV's (especially the plasma variety), in short anything with some soret of digital control. Poor design, poor shielding, poor filtering all contribute. Ever notice the instruction you recieved on one of these things: "this device may cause interference to radios or other communication devices, if this occurs move the device away, or re-orient its antenna to minimize the interference" In short, the level of man made noise in our environment has increased ten fold over the last decade or so. (a pollution issue the environmentalists don't talk about, but serious just the same)

iHeartRadio is one of the best out there, a mix of ootunes and pandora

On my visits to LA and the Inland Empire I like KPCC and KJAZZ. The news coverage of everything from local to international issues on the former is excellent, and the latter will throw at you everything from pre-WWI ragtime and stride jazz to the latest experimental stuff.

On my home turf the local station is an embarrassment, and funny for all the wrong reasons. We're talking phone-ins in which a Victor Meldrew type rants that he fought Hitler in the war and therefore it was a disgrace that the council can't clear dog poo off the pavement (sidewalk), followed by some spectacularly naff 1970s easy listening. It's hilarious, but unintentionally so.

Retro 1260 has moved over to FM and can now be found doing the same over on 105.1 FM or online at Retro 105
