It's very difficult to have an accurate idea where a relationship or marriage will go in the long run. Starting out you may think you're dating someone who is just right for you and she's genuinely passionate toward you. That passion may even last for years and seem rock solid. But people can fall out of love just as fast as they fall in love. Anyone who has been in the dating game long enough has gone through the experience of being blind-sided by a sudden relationship crash. You think you really know your significant other. But then the shit happens and you feel like you never knew this person at all. When someone has experienced that crap multiple times raising the stakes with marriage doesn't seem like such a great idea. I understand you shouldn't make a new significant other pay for what others did to you previously, but the situation is still pretty scary and uncertain at best. Greg, No offense to you personally. I have been to SLC for work, and you guys have some weird laws. I was told I had to be a member of some sort of club to order a beer at any resteraunt, later I bought a 6 pack at a State owned liquor store, I was told that it was watered down. Now BYU kicks Brandon Davies off their team for premarital sex?? She took the Sport trac, which I didn't contest because she also was taking the kids. I had a late 80's Audi GT Coupe in storage that I just left. It needed a little engine work that would probably cost more than the value of the car. I had a 97 Jeep Wrangler that I had made a lot of changes to, my beach car. Neoprene seats, oversized tires, bikini top year round in FL, plus a lot of other details to make it a "looker". My daily driver was this. I gave the Jeep to the bank and had to sell the Vette. Some guy got a great deal, it was like the stories you hear about someone buying an exotic car for next to nothing. I knew my ex was expecting the check and I had to take it to my attorney so he could turn it over to hers. I sold it for $2500. The situation is so much more complicated than it used to be and it is pretty easy for some women to game the system. My brother has raised his daughter, Janice nearly all her life. The only exception has been the last couple years with her living in Colorado with my parents. There were too many bad influences in the Atlanta school system for Janice to stay there. You know how much child support dollars my brother has got for all those years of being a single parent? ZERO. But I guess that's okay since he is a man. This issue, and the more horrible issue of unchecked health care cost inflation, is literally going to price the idyllic "American Family" completely out of existence. I have little if any desire to get married for all the horrible financial risks divorce involves. It doesn't matter if I want to keep the marriage going. If the lady decides she wants to be single again and sow her wild oats I'm going to be taken to the poor house anyway! I personally know guys who have been screwed over like this. It only takes one person not wanting to be married to make a marriage fail. Most attorneys will freely tell anyone not to get married if they can help it. And then consider the bone crushing costs of having kids these days. The medical bills are pervertedly appalling. Stack on costs of early childhood development, day care and all of the other stuff that goes along with it. Throw in a divorce and you'll have a financial disaster in the making for anyone not rich. Even some rich people get wiped out finanically from divorce too. The 2010 US Census states that White and Black Americans have had the lowest percentage of population growth over the last 10 years since the Great Depression. The biggest area of population growth in the US is by way of immigration and population growth within Hispanic and Asian minority groups. Basically us stupid "honkeys" are on a path of pricing ourselves into a small minority. I know I'm not breeding with anyone!  |  IP: Logged Sam D. It takes people pretty vacant of morals to willingly devastate the finances of patients in order to make health care an "asset class." The industry is set up in a massive circle jerk where hospital corporations, insurance companies, drug companies, trial law firms and other players in the game have a convenient scape goat to blame for their price gouging. The patient is stuck in the middle of this circle jerk getting bukkaked with stupid. Lots of regular Americans are in an indirect way guilty participants in this nonsense since many have big parts of their retirement funds invested in health care related stocks. The American people also don't want to bring anything to the table so to speak when it comes to finding ways to reduce these skyrocketing costs. The United States is the fattest nation on the planet. 70% of patients in hospitals for life threatening conditions are there with conditions they could have prevented.  |  IP: Logged
