Never seen Waterworld, but it was awfully fun what they did with the Burbs.

I'd love to see WB bring back that old theme. Sure, As Time Goes By is nice but not like that rich and powerful Max Steiner crescendo. Strange that they chose that odd synthesized version for home video for so many years.

I hadn't heard the synthesized WHV version in years. Good Lord in Heaven! That's horrible!

Michael is right about the Fox logo having a fanfare. Notice the similar concept between that logo variation on "Cannonball Run" and the one for "Smokey and the Bandit." Both with cars racing around the logos and both ending with Burt Reynolds' laughter.

Actually Michael et al, "The Robe" was the first film released in the CinemaScope format with six track magnetic sound. I was in the booth and I ran it.

Actually, Robert, the subject being discussed in regard to CinemaScope is the Fox Fanfare (i.e. the music heard over the 20th Century-Fox snipe), not the photography/projection process.

Apparently, you were confused by my comment about River Of No Return. To be clear, I never claimed River Of No Return was the first CinemaScope release; what I claimed was that it was the first CinemaScope release to feature the Fox Fanfare with the so-called CinemaScope Extension. In other words, the first few CinemaScope releases from Fox, including The Robe, featured either the old fanfare or no fanfare at all. (And those early CinemaScope films had four-track sound, not six-track.)

Another really cool Universal logo was in the front of "Xanadu". It started off with the classic OLD logo with the biplane circling the globe to some 50's music, then to a modern jet with some 80's rock, and finally a flying saucer with "space" music..the saucer went faster and faster then it zoomed out to the opening title of the film.

I haven't found it online yet, maybe I'll upload it to youtube, if can ever figure out how.

OMG I kinda-sorta remember that Tony...and I'd love to see that opening again. This is the moment you've been waiting for -- time to rip the shrink-wrap off that pristine Betamax copy you've been squirreling away!

And, how could I forget the WB variation on one of my favorite guilty pleasures? Deep Blue Sea

Did anyone here ever show Fox Movietone News when it was current?

And since we've snuck in some home-video logos and themes: Vestron

I never noticed the Backwards Universal Logo on the original E.T. That's neat!

LOL Manny, thanks for the post, I needed a laugh after my last post about Gizmo...

Actually I have "Xandu" on Laserdisc and dvd. It is a fun but campy movie...Oliva was hot (except for that horrid country music bit in the finale) but the lead actor was so wooden and dull he killed the movie.

I watch it for the music, and still wonder how they ever got Gene Kelley to be in it.

You're right Michael. There were two tracks on each side of the film. I must have been thinking of some 70mm stuff I ran.
