The spread of the Soda Tax continues:

It is going into effect in Cook County Illinois (including Chicago) in July. They are not even pretending to fund early childhood education but admit it will be used to plug a budget deficit.

It is also on the ballot (at 2 cents per ounce) on May 2, 2017 for Santa Fe, New Mexico.

There ought to be some kind of an adjustment for places that sell sodas in cups with ice - you're paying tax on half a cup of ice.
