To get the channel count, yes, but only ATMOS houses will have the necessary channels/speakers installed. So, I think TC is the easiest way to cross over. The way ATMOS is done today, it would be too complicated to tap an additional high-channel-count player into these systems, incl. all necessary bells and whistles (like EQ, master volume, delay, etc.). Timecode is so simple...
