CP65 to Aux Input of CP500?

I've been searching, but I guess I'm the odd one. I like the look and controls of the CP500 and I've been reading that the best analog processor was the CP65 with CAT350 SR modules installed.

I tried acquiring a Cat688 adapter and adding the CAT350 modules to the CP500, but it's not happy about them.

I was wondering if it was possible to run the CP65 output into the Aux of the CP500 and have it gracefully fall-back to CP65 SR/A when losing SRD.

Possible? Silly? And yes, I know the CP650 is great.

You need the 6-channel input card for the CP500 if you want to do something like this. Last I checked, those were pretty rare, but that situation may have changed.

      Thanks, Scott!

Do you happen to know the CAT number of such a beast?

Bear in mind that by going through the 685 you're adding a A/D - D/A conversion, plus all the extra noise the CP500 will introduce (those weren't super-quiet units!) Also, switching to Format 11 and back will have a little gap, won't be as smooth as from SRD to SR and vice versa.

Finally, I don't think the 500 will allow you to set Format 11 as a fall-back format from SRD. SRD will always default to SR. So you'd need some external automation I guess.

In short, I'm not sure this is worth the hassle considering that cat 222 in the 500 were not so bad?

If anything, you could consider a DA20 into the 65 with the cat 350 installed. That would work. Maybe there is a way to feed the CP500 into the CP65 and wire the automation so that the 65 knows when the 500 has dropped to analogue.

Well, I snagged the 688, just to mess with. I really appreciate the comments/suggestions. This will all be a big experiment when I get to setting up the audio. I've acquired a CP650 with EX, so I'll try that too.
