    Cecil B. Demented source?

Anyone know whom to get a DCP from for Cecil B. Demented?

The Blu-Ray comes out Nov 14th, but we have it and a 35mm Polyester w/Odorama cues and audience cards Oct 17th.

John Waters will be with us again so I’d hate to have to show the DVD of Cecil. Maybe he can get an advance copy of the BR? It seems to be non-existent on all the platforms right now, although YT and Fubo once hosted it.

Our programmer is reaching out to Lionsgate, but behind the ball cause we thought JW was providing for this engagement.

What about Park Circus? I presumed you licensed it from them, they didn't have a source? https://parkcircus.com/film/114576-Cecil-B.-Demented

Thanks, I’ve passed along that lead, not sure why our programmer mentioned lionsgate.

The Music Box in Chicago recently ran this on 35mm. If it didn’t come from Park Circus, perhaps someone there can help with their source.

The Park Circus listing indicates UK and Ireland only. It also lists StudioCanal; if they have the rights in the US I would check with Rialto Pictures, as they carry the StudioCanal library.

It was Park Circus that passed our programmer to Lionsgate for US bookings, initial inquiry seemed hopeful, but replies dried up on that thread apparently… we’ll see.

For those following along, so Lionsgate did have rights (recently), but two weeks after that Music Box show they lost the rights, and it seems that Rialto has them now, but Rialto wasn't even aware of that fact and are looking into it, don't know where the print is.

DVD is on order... prey for us.

Our screening day has arrived. How it is slated...

                1. Polyester (we got a print), but then later were notified John Waters wants a confidence monitor for his live commentary and Odorama prompting, he'll be seated on stage the whole time. I pitched several options that would have permitted running the print and giving him a monitor camera feed of the screen. Management decided to ditch the print and show the Blu-Ray with JW's blessing... the print would have been the outlier for these engagements. A bit of faffing about with the Oppo frame-rate preferences (24p set to "off" instead of "auto") and I was able get a test working where Projector, booth DVI monitor (that lacks 24p support), and SDI run to stage confidence monitor all work at 59.94.

Too bad though, if any grungy print deserved to be seen, it's the "Odorama" version of Polyester!!! I didn't even crack the cans to see how good/bad it looked.

                2. To make my life a little easier I converted the Cecil DVD to DCP and we looked at a screen test yesterday. Programming approved and to be honest, it's a very good DVD edition, we are fortunate there! Blu-Ray does not come out until Nov 13th, and that print Music Box showed never surfaced in a way that Rialto, who now has the rights, was able to make good with it.

This will be my first (and hopefully only) DVD screened film in my tenure here. Alas. With just a minor re-alignment of the fates, this could have been a stellar 35mm double feature night!

The perfect John Waters' screening would have been in 16mm

True. It felt a bit blasphemous screening a film with lines like “Celluloid forever” from a DVD.

In the end polyester on bluray was probably best, he said he often asks for a pause to expand in the live commentary, although he never did during our run. Everyone had a grand time, even with the stinky auditorium.
