The new movie 'Blus Moon' is only playing at one theatre in the Santa Cruz CA area. Too bad as many seniors would have liked to see to have seen this movie in the surrounding cities.
Now Playing at Landmarks 'Theatre DelMar' up stairs in theatre Digital Cinema Forum Nice small loge type twin but the scope screen is a nice size for a small auditorium. Picture shot in scope and looked nice and bright not like many of the other movies I have seen around town lately that were filmed way to dark. Forget any surround stereo sound in 'Blue Moon' even very little stereo from the three stage speakers.
The whole movie took place mostly in Sardi"s Bar in NYC. It was almost like watching a play on the big screen. Like so many films they did not dress the background at the bar. Just about 4 people on the set at a time. Took place in 1943 at the reception for 'Oklahoma'. The end of Rogers & Hart and the start of Rogers & Hammerstein.
A very slow film at times, I wanted to see and hear stage music shot in a theatre, parties and some outdoor scenes but the whole picture took place in two rooms at the bar with guests arriving in he background.
Ethan Hawke did a great job playing the washed up drunk 'Lorenz Hart' near the end of his life. A sad movie at times but 'Ethan' will do very well come Oscar time. My complaint was his hair style. The movie took place over one night in Sardi's but his hair looked different in about three different scenes. Someone in the makeup department did not do there job and compare the shots from the other days of filming I guess.
The Theatre DelMar had a nice 4 PM crowd mainly of older people in the auditorium. The R rated movie had way too much potty dirty words in the first part. I think some of the older folks were offended and thought the 'Blue Moon' movie would be about music as It was a biopic. The only music was from a soldier playing the bar piano.
I buy a few DVD's of movies when they come out to loan out to some of my older movie friends that do not go out to the cinemas anymore. This movie because of the languege won't be making the rounds. I think there is a company that has a app to take out dirty/bad words in a movie or DVD, turn a R into a PG movie?
