Maybe the thing is marketed as the "GDC projector" outside of China, because nobody knows the "Espedeo Supra-5000", which sounds like a knock-off of a sports car rather than a professional projector.

Just think how much more complex our color imaging systems would need to be if we could not cheat and use just three colors to reproduce to what our eyes see as full color. Think of a visiting alien with a broader range of color perception asking why we image bananas as red + green instead of in true yellow. (Okay, a banana probably does give off R & G as well as true yellow light.)
All the colorist's on the West coast don't think so Steve. In fact they HATE laser projectors because they have to do a separate color job for customers with laser and another one for Xenon. So it is obviously as Steve G. says it is. The colorists can see it on the screen without having to do measurements with expensive instruments

Sorry for necroposting, but it’s the only topic I found about the Supra-5000…

A local reseller told me back in March that it’s already been ”dead” for a while due to a lot of problems. Now Projector Central says it’s discontinued since April 2024, so I guess it’s confirmed.

Here’s hoping this teaches the other manufacturers to stay away from 2-chip DLP

Yes, it's been discontinued. I think for legal reasons with TI. Technically, for what is was/ is it worked OK and the ones I did run so far reliable. You won't go into large screen theatres, preview theatres, or grading suites. The calibrated images look fully OK.
For the average place to screen films, color precision is not the key priority, has never been and will never be so, regardless of equipment installed. There's too few theatres that care about projection and sound. They care about concessions, sodas, ice cream sales and so on. AS long as an image flickers on screen.
