    Dolby software update release thread

As with Barco and Q-Sys, starting a perennial thread for news and discussion of Dolby software updates.

Released today (or at least, I got the email today), and available to download from the Dolby portal:
    • CP850 and CP950/CP950A - version 2.3.2.6 (supersedes 2.3.2.5)
    • IMS3000 - version 3.21.8 (supersedes 3.21.7)
    From the email:

These software releases address an issue where, in some cases with malformed content playing on the coded media inputs, the audio engine could crash and automatically restart.
From this I infer that this update can be skipped for IMS3000s that are running in server mode and are already on 3.21.7, as the only change affects its onboard audio processor.

Version 2.3.3.7 for the CP950/CP950A is now available for download. This one is just a bug fix update (no new features), as follows:

I have experienced both the amber status glow when all is well and the expired Atmos license bug, so this one is welcome.

If your processor is on an earlier version than 1.0.4.2, you need to install 1.0.4.2 first, and after that can jump to this one.

Is there any information about how the Dolby Multichannel Amps are effected by this upgrade?

I, recently, had an issue with streaming via DCDC's Kencast on an IMS3000 running 3.21.7. All of the IPs were right as well as the PID. Upgrading to 3.21.8 fixed the problem. So, I would recommend updating the IMS3000 to 3.21.8, regardless.

As to the DMA amplifiers, they JUST got an update (about a month or two ago). That was absolutely key for Q-SYS integration. It is 3.0.1.11 for the DMA. If you don't have that version, I would get it. Also note, it requires one to run the update TWICE for it to fully update.

Caleb: there is nothing in the release notes about this CP950/A update affecting or fixing anything related to its interaction with DMAs.

            Released February 19:

Doremi IMB firmware 30.11k (main) and 30.08t (alternate/HFR) - fixes an issue that could cause the IMB to crash and produce color banding during playback of certain content, e.g. The Brutalist, and audio distortion when playing DCPs with high audio levels.

IMS1000 and 2000 - firmware version 4.6.1.6 - fixes audio distortion when playing DCPs mastered at high levels.

Version 2.3.3.7 is also now the current one for the CP950 and 950A (sorry - forgot to update this thread when it came out).

Still running our IMS3000 on 3.21.7 right now. Considering upgrading to .8 this weekend, even though we had little issues as of late.

@Steve I guess KenCast uses the "StreamIt" multicast streaming feature of the IMS3000? I've never really trusted those streaming features and prefer when those live streaming solutions come with a "simple" HDMI output...

Per the release notes, the only thing that 3.21.8 adds, if you already have 3.21.7, is "....an issue has been addressed where, in some cases playing with malformed content on the coded media inputs, the audio engine could crash and automatically restart." There are no new features. So unless you are running the IMS3000 using the built-in audio processor, updating from 3.21.7 to .8 will do absolutely nothing. If you are, it looks like it's worth installing.

We're using the IMS3000 for Atmos in our screening room, we do get a lot of half-assed content. Haven't actively experienced the audio engine crashing the last few months though. But I like to keep our equipment upgraded and it's also interesting to see what it does.

Apparently, it fixed Steve's streaming issue too, and that's not in the changelog either.

We have been using the IMS300 to receive DCDC live events for several years now. If there are issues it's usually associated with weather (effecting satellite reception), or a network switch misconfig or failure. Almost never the IMS. We have even had a few events where we used OBS to set a scene, capture camera footage, and stream it to multiple auditoriums in the building. It mostly just works.

Question for Steve: What were the symptoms of the issue you resolved by upgrading to 3.21.8?

Can pop this question to a pm if needed

It flat our would not stream in one venue. The GDC SR1000 servers in the same venue using the same PIDs had no issue. DCDC claimed that they had to be on different addresses. The only change I made that resolved the issue was updating to 3.21.8. Could it be coincidence? Maybe. There could have been some other part of the previous software that was corrupted and got fixed.

Dolby will soon disable service-ftp ftp.cinema.dolby.com and all content (updates, dlms, etc.) will then be available on a new server. This can be read on a new text-document which is located in the main directory on the old server.

This FTP location is soon to be retired and moved to a different server.
If you would like to request access to the new location, please reach out to CinemaSupport@dolby.com

You can ask: I need help gaining access to the SERVICE login to have access to DLMs and other things related to cinema products"

Version 3.24.3 for the IMS3000 is now available on dolbycustomer.com, together with the release notes. Most of the bug fixes and enhancements relate to the NAS (including a significant speed boost when playing and ingesting simultaneously), but they also fixed a bug that can cause false temperature warnings with an IMS3000 in a Christie Series 3 or 4 projector, added a device manager option for Barco and Christie Series 4 2K projectors, and fixed a bug whereby if "Barco Series 4 4K/60" was selected in the device manager, 2K playback sometimes wouldn't scale correctly.

I was a beta tester on this one. I've had no issues with it whatsoever. Or should I say, nothing got worse. The 4K option now will always output 4K to your 4K projector, regardless of content. 2K content will output at 4K.

Going back to the Doremi days, one was supposed to set up an SPL as 2D, 3D and, eventually, 4K. By selecting the 4K option in Device Manager for your projector (e.g. Barco SP4K-x), setting that parameter to 4K is no longer necessary and some TMS' don't know how to do it anyway.
