    DCP2K4 as a backup to 4K IMB?

Since reliability is fresh in everyone's mind, and now we know our cert is valid to 2038.

Hypothetical, how logical/possible is it to retain our DCP2K4 as a backup in the eventual replacement/upgrade to a 4K Laser with IMS/IMB? Can you still marry a Dolphin 1.2 based DCP2K4 box server via SDI to a modern IMB... or are those IMB sdi inputs strictly for ALT content?

Would a spare PIB compatible with the new projector be a bundled requirement instead of the SDI inputs on the modern IMB or IMS?

Separately, the DCP2K4 "supports" 4K. Was that just in it's ability to handle 4K DCPs and deliver 2K to the projectors, or did it actually support 4K over the dolphin/SDI connections? IE would it be a fully fledged 4K backup server, or just a 2K one?

A DCP2K4 is just a 4U "DCP2000" with no display option (I think that's true, have not seen one with a display) and slots for four drives rather than three. You could order it with 4 drives but I have never seen one that way as shipped from Doremi/Dolby. The 4th slot has an empty sled though, so putting four in is pretty easy (except for the hours of formatting after RAID reconfiguration, many hours for 4x large (ie 4TB) drives).
It isn't about 4K projection, they only output 2K video like a DCP2000 - this is a limit of the old spec SDI signals. Supporting 4K just means 4K DCPs are playable (at 2K).
You can convert either to a ShowVault, basically remove the Dolphin board and put in the PCI-e board. But parts may not be available.

Copy. So 4K on screen is out in a backup server context. But what about the 2K option, PIB required, or doable without removing future likely IMB/IMS?

Admittedly if your backup server were to require some modes of new IMS/IMB to function, not really much of a backup. A shelved PIB might be the only viable option

The IMB SDI inputs are for unencrypted signals, there is no LD function.

Cheers. That makes sense. Maybe it's future will be as a network attached ingest/ftp host, would perhaps be less cumbersome than fumbling with external CRU readers and laptops.
