Barco DP4K BLP17 - Issues with subtitle readings.

    Hi All,

I have been getting an issue with one projector BLP17, I have 8 in one cinema, but only one aud is getting this issue the subtitle wont appear only some lines on the movie.

below is the support reply which doesn't make sense since its happening only in one projector out the the 8.

Thanks for the logfile but I didn't notice any specific error regarding the subtitles.
As it was previously mentioned by Bart there could be a wrong URI syntax using in the subtitles files which is causing such an artefacts, if so then the subtitle files should be improved by the film maker.

If it works correctly on all other BLP17's, then it might be worthwhile to look for potential differences between the machine with the issue and the ones that work correctly. What server are you using? And have you checked if the software versions on those machines are the same?

What languages are the subtitles in? English or Arabic with right-to-left alignment?

Subtitles are generated by either the ICP, IMB/ICMP. As such, the problem could be with your server, the ICP (if still using Cine Canvas). If you are using an ICMP-X, then I would ensure that I was on the latest firmware for it as well as the projector itself. If you are using another server...again, I would check to ensure that the server is updated.

There is a known issue with ICMPs (and ICMP-X?) timed text subtitle rendering when image scaling is used in the preset. Barco knows it for many years. I have seen the exact same effect when I wanted to create a special preset for an Open Air La-La-Land Screening with special scaling applied due to the 2.55:1 original AR.

So, check the specific preset where this is happening against the presets on the other machines.

The bottom line is - DCI manufacturers give a shit about proper subtitle rendering.

I've seen a similar issue (not that bad) on Christie CineLife as well - try removing scaling you have it. If it resolves, try just changing the current scaling a bit - a few pixels.

                  Hi All

Thank you for your time helping on this.
So I have check the PCF, its on DCDM_XYZ_auto , I have check FW for projectors and ICMPs of all auds , they are identical.
The tech did rest the golden contacts as the normal process and still the issue is there.
I will go myself check the preset and the scaling and get back to you

My thought its the ICMP is old and maybe something is wrong with it. I would also swap the ICMPs with other unit to confirm.

Again, compare the specific presets between this and a working screen. You could also just copy a scope preset from a working screen over to this machine for a quick check.

An Asian co-worker tells me the message reads:
"Check the PCF file and create a new Marco channel."
                      - - "Marco" is problably a typo and should be "MACRO" ,
which would make sense, both technically and grammatically.

In Chrome/Edge you can simply highlight the message, right click and select "translate to English". Firefox has a similar feature.

                          Hi All,

You were right guys, its was about the PCF, it was on DCDM_XYZ_auto once i changed it to DCDM_RGB_auto subtitle worked fine.

I have sent an inquiry to Barco which PCF is right to choose for Laser Projector.

I will update you once i hear back

Oh that's interesting. My experience is that it needed to be on DCDM_XYZ_auto, else the subtitles failed, exactly as your pictures.

I wonder if at some point, the DCDM_XYZ_auto on your machine got modified.

I actually checked on a DP4K-CLP machine in our service estate, it was on DCDM_XYZ_auto

my concern is whether the picture now looks correct considering the PCF is now RGB and not XYZ? The content should still be in XYZ, laser or non laser, correct?
