Carl Martin Phenomenal Film Handler Posts: 1424 From: Oakland, CA, USA Registered: Feb 2002 posted 04-03-2003 02:40 PM                        manny, 2001 starts first with the ligetti overture before the curtains open, so it's not like you're hearing it twice in succession. and the piece is more effective if you have heard it before (which is why, i think, kubrick uses it for the title sequence as well as for the bone thing and the star child). that way, as you anticipate the climax of the piece, you get emotionally geared up for the image to climax as well. and of course the wurlitzer doesn't do the timpani. if, instead of the, uh, sophisticated non-sync music we have now, we were required to pipe in dj-mediated bad r&b with commercials throughout the theater (or even just in the auditoriums), you better believe i'd be out of there. for the sake of my sanity and self-respect. carl  |  IP: Logged Frank Angel Film God Posts: 5305 From: Brooklyn NY USA Registered: Dec 1999 posted 04-10-2003 04:33 AM                        ABBA.....and nothing but ABBA.  |  IP: Logged John Wilson Film God Posts: 5438 From: Sydney, Australia.
