Author Topic: Boom mics in flat films Steve Kraus Film God Posts: 4094 From: Chicago, IL, USA Registered: May 2000 posted 06-26-2004 12:04 PM                    Video aspect ratios have little relevance in a discussion about film projection as you have no way to know what was transferred (and this can change from shot to shot). Station Agent was probably Super 16 and would indeed look best projected at 1.66 except for the unfortunate fact that there are a few shots in there that are hard masked to 1.85. Perhaps someone decided that the film should be shown 1.85, checked it, and found it acceptable at that aspect ratio except for a few shots which they then optically or digitally moved lower to clear the 1.85 height. That's one plausible explanation. Maybe it was intended for 1.85 all along but the camera operator just cut it terribly close and blew it with a few shots.
