I was OK with 8PM shows when I thought I could build up the night before..... Usually we just get split deliveries, the second box arriving the day before the start date. This can be problematic in itself though. I think it was Transformers last year where one cinema received 2 box#1's and another cinema received 2 box#2's. Because this problem doesn't manifest until the day before showing, there's no time for the distributer to fix their fuckup. I feel bad for those projectionists that will have 4-5 prints to build on Thursday. Instead, they make a big deal sending dire warnings to all members about some bulb company sending invoices billing $18 for bulbs that they originally said were free. Seems to me boltcutters and futzing with combinations isn't the answer....hit them on the front end -- just say the locks prevented the print to be properly checked and so it will not be played until May 2nd. NO BOX OFFICE RETURN for the 1st. THAT will be what makes brains cells explode in their frontal lobes. That sure will get them to think twice about doing this kind of thing. As if anyone who was going to steal a print would be stopped by a $5 lock. Or maybe they just want everyone to feel equal....after all, the guys playing digital prints don't get the key until the studio says so -- maybe they just don't want 35mm print guys to feel left out. They want us to get used to the way it will be in the future....THEY control EVERYTHING. Get used to it.
