quote: Kurt Zupin I never understood why everyone was complaining about them being locked when nobodys going to get them till Thursday, didn't make much sense.
But, we do not get them on Thursday. We received ours on Wednesday night around 7pm, which is typical of prints shipped by Deluxe. So, these cans had to just sit there overnight before we could screen them.
quote: Scott Norwood Theatres can't open cans until Thursday, for a film that is scheduled to open on Friday? Isn't that typical, anyway?
Again, we received these prints on Wednesday, not Thursday, so it does create an unneccesary delay. Also, Paramount is requiring that we have an 8pm show on THURSDAY NIGHT. So, this film opens on Thursday, not Friday. Our time is getting crunched on both sides. This allows 11 hours between the time we can get the combo and must have the show on screen.

1. Mike Schulz was not serious. The combination is 4 digits.
2. A significant number of theatres get their DFS prints on Wednesdays. Not everybody, probably not most. But for those people used to it, getting [access to] the prints a day late is an annoyance, especially when schedules and processes are set around it.
3. As noted by Carey, Ironman opens today, Thursday. Getting prints on the same day is an annoyance to everyone
4. People like to complain. The loudness of the complaint does not necessarily have anything to do with the seriousness of the complaint. Often the reverse (bikeshed).
5. Exhibitor Relations aren't the right people to complain to, they handle marketing, trailers and onesheets, etc., but not print control or booking issues. That said, I suppose they could point you in the right direction, but I'd start with your booker...

quote: Mike Spaeth Paramount is not REQUIRING 8pm shows. They are ALLOWING 8pm shows. Your corporate office may be REQUIRING them.
That's fine...My point is that I am required to play them by someone higher up than me. For my purposes, it does not matter where the order comes from. I MUST build this up Thursday morning and I MUST play it at 8pm Thursday night.
FWIW, I was also told that this was coming from Paramount...I cannot really say if this is true or not. How do you know it is not coming from Paramount? Do you know that no such deal exists between AMC and Paramount? (I am asking genuinely, not sarcastically, in case it sounds that way).
quote: Scott Norwood Ah...I get it. It essentially _is_ a Thursday night release.
Exactly...It is, for all intents and purposes, opening on Thursday evening in many theatres.
Having said this, I do not want it to sound like I am screaming mad. It is mostly an annoyance, as noted by Mr. Hawkinson.
The only reason I posted in this thread was to correct some misinformation I read in other postings -- I wanted to point out that it is opening Thursday (not Friday) and that many people received their prints on Wednesday night (not Thursday morning)but could not open them.
All our prints have been built up and screened and it really was not that bad. Some of the posts that are really ranting about this seem kinda silly.
