The problem with the two smaller boxes within a bigger box idea is that you would still need to make two trips to get it all upstairs, once to carry the film boxes and then once more to carry the big, empty box. Then, you'd have to fuss about to put the small empty boxes into the big empty boxes after you were done building, and then fuss about again when the time came to break everything down. Mike B still has the best solution; take a few of those reels out, carry them up and come back down for the rest. That way you don't have to fuss with extra boxes later on, wasting time and patience.
As for interlocking boxes, that sounds great in theory, but you KNOW that wouldn't hold up, probably not even for one shipment. They'd definitely come apart.
