You think that there are only a few hundred locations that are sill worthy of getting films prints? And a year from now no one will be getting releases on film? I must be reading this wrong. Your way way off. We are talking years before Film isn't relevant. Decade probably until its completly done with except for vault titles and what not.

Also it is impressive that Hannah Montana did that much, but that is a niche title. The tweens were out in droves, and by having a low screen count and putting a "Two Week Limited Run" tag on it helped alot to. Then after they went "Oh well we don't want anyone to miss out so we're goign to run it for another week. Then another and another till people stop coming." If it would of be released without the "Limited Run" tag, I think the numbers would of been alot diffrent. People thought they only had two weeks to see it. So everyone rushed out to get their kids into it opening weekend and during the week.

Hi Kurt,

I am talking about 3d movies here. As of last month, their were many theaters averaging $200k per screen at 6-8 plexes that had zero or just 1 3d screen. So it made sense for studios to make 2d prints for them. I know of one instance where Universal allowed 1 week digital 3d and a 2nd week of 2d film. The rate of digital conversions is pretty high right now with the bigger theater chains.

A year from now a studio could realistically reach 2000+ locations even with 2 releases at the same time. At that point there is probably not enough theaters out there to mess with putting on a 2d version on film.

So I believe that a year from now you will see multiples movies released in 3d only.
