I should also say something about the fact that, at this time, all seats in the IMAX theatre are reserved seats. Is that really necessary for a Tuesday morning matinee? As far as I could tell, it merely slowed down my visit to the box office where I not only bought tickets but had to stop and select seats when the cashier turned his computer screen half-way towards me. Now, I could have selected my seats online before going to the theatre but then I'd have to pay the online ticket surcharge.
Actually, you CAN'T choose your seat online. If you purchase tickets online, it says that it will "reserve the best seats for you" and that you can exchange them for other seats at the theatre if you wish.

I'll be checking this silliness out for myself next week. I wouldn't mind reserved seating if you COULD pick your seat online...If I could pull up a seating chart and lock in my options before leaving the house, I'd cheerfully pay the service fee.

I guess they're doing the reserved seating in 15 too (their digital video house).

Cinesphere has always maintained a resereved seat hard ticket policy for film presentations in the off season
It actually does improve flow and the concesion sales are higher as people are not as rushed fighting for good seats

I think our IT department is working on a system for selecting seats online. I beleive you can reserve a specific seat by purchasing in person at the box for now. Our DLP theatre (#15) is the same way. The computer does have a pretty good idea which seats are the best, so the earlier you purchase the tickets the better. It gets rid of the "comfort seat" problem where no one wants to sit with in one or two seats of someone they don't know on a sold out show. As for the dialog problem, I havn't worked the IMAX alot lately but I did hear of a problem with the Center channel that was temporarily resolved by routing it to the High Center (as I understood it, but I could be wrong). The problem was fixed a very short time later, Greg was just lucky enough to be there for that one or two shows. As for the comparison, I'm learning more about IMAX and it could be improved but is still vastly greater then CDC in my humble opinion from a operational point of view.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if it is possible to edit the projector time on the DTAC? I know you can change the show time with the Jump To button in the screening screen, but what about the projector time? This may be a little of topic so feel free to email the answer to me.

DTAC can't change the projector time, it just reports what the PLC tells it, which in turn comes from the projector...so if you forget to reset the frame count before starting a show, or have an issue where the projector time isn't accurate, you can't just say "add a frame to projector time" or anything like that.

Alright, one more, what are they doing with the 8/70 projector?

DTAC = the computer controlling audio input/output and audio sync with projector.

So you can't change the offset if your sound is out of sync?

Hopefully they will place it in the Jordon Commons Trash Compactor, thats where it belongs! There is a far better machine available just down the road Richard.

Ha, very funny Mark, I know you don't like that machine, but I have a serious interest in it. If they really trash it, let me know, I'll show up and do some "dumpster diving"

Correct...if the sound is out of sync, you have only two options...one, let it stay that way, or two, try to use the 'Jump To...' button and enter in a timecode and hope that what you tell it to jump to is where the sound should be by the time you press 'Go' and it starts going again.

If you start on the start frame and reset the frame count to 0 and the time code (projector time) to 59:52:00-0, you would have to have some other problem (eithor in the film, the sound or the tach) causing the print to be out of sync. I was just asking because for some reason the other day the projector time reset in the middle of a show while the frame count on the console remaind correct. If we could have changed the projector time we could have done a frame count to SMPTE conversion and regained the show.

You have to press "go" and wait for it to sync? Is it on a hard drive or tape or cd?

Stewart: when that happens, you're pretty much stuck either trying to do a 'close enough' match by using the 'Jump to...' function, or decide that the show you're playing is about to have a lot of refunds.

Richard: The system is hard drive based, but it takes a couple of seconds for it to jump to a given spot in the sound file when using the 'Jump to...' function and start playing. Basically what the button does is allows you to start the audio playing from any given point that you choose, regardless of the projector time that's reported. Definitely not designed for the purpose of letting a movie run that has lost sync with the projector time, but sometimes you can get lucky and make it work within about 1/2 a second of correct sync.

Kyle, Really it takes that long? The systems I install use a hard drive also, but when you change the offset, it is instant. You just hear the slight difference right away.

I was doing the world premier for "Pulse" and the director claimed it was out of sync by 2 frames. So it was just a quick change on the sound system and no one but him new anything had changed. Then he said it should be 1 frame back, he was off by 1 frame.
